We have a HP Colour Laser Jet 3600n. We have recently installed re-manufactured print cartridges. Our print quality has been badly affected. Whilst black printing is still of high quality, colour printing is badly shadowed and almost unreadable in places. Is there any maintenance we can do to improve this?
Nope...... the problem as you rightly poit out is the cartridges, most refills are poor quality and dont last, but the real ones are expensive but very rarely cause issues. If one colour is dodgy the entire colour process fails, print a square of each colour to determine which colour cart is the issue and complain to seller, 99.9% of print quality issues with these HP's is due to non gen toner....not much you can do, expensive is colour printer fullstop.
Testimonial: "Thank you - we were hoping for a less expensive solution, but think we knew this at the back of our minds."
Hi Teresa,
On these HP's you can print a colour alignment page, it may be hold tick while power up or via the printers operations panel print alignmet/status page, anyway once you get the page in the corners is a alignment picture, there is on a good working unit 4 thin lines each colour equal distance apart, if these are not align properely it can cause issues that sounds like yours, ie squres are good but colour print bad (shadow effect) ....
Can you print me this page, what are yours like?
You can also check the transfer belt that it is not torn, ripped or damaged..dont wipe it;) It is the unit that has a long belt attached to inside front door and opens when door does....can be removed two buttons either side near front door hinge.
I'm now guessing your alignments out, normally this is cartridge related but not always, first I normally fit 4x HP gen carts to confirm... I have found on occasion the fault not being the carts or a damaged belt but a dirty static strip...
These static strips are either on your model or the 2600, but you can check yours by looking with front open.. above top black cart, near level with the front of such but higher towards the top, it is just a mental bar running width of printer with teeth ie VVVVVVVVVVVV if its there on it is green slider, move it up and down, or clean VVVVVVV with a brush...
The most economical, reliable, full colour laser is the Kyocera range, take out extentend warrany and length of warranty is life of any modern machine..More expensive to buy, but chepest to run..thats where your money goes....Kyocera stuff is made to work unlike most, no drums, no fusers, no nothing to do to it but feed quality toner, no cartridgess at all, any other colour laser is going to cost you more, promise..p.s. I dont work for any one brand but know them true!!

Having printed squares of each colour - there is no lines, markings or fadings on any of them. If anything it is worst on the black and clear pages, and just down the right hand margin! Any more ideas?
