I own a 1 year old Dell Studio 1535. Its original battery died, so I purchased a generic one online. When I turned on the laptop with the battery only (not plugged in), it said battery not recognized, but still the laptop continued to run. The battery was only 47% full. When I plugged in the adapter to charge the battery, it said "Plugged in, but not charging." What should I do to get it to charge? Or is it impossible to charge a generic battery with an original dell adapter?
Dell batteries lets say do have their critics, its not impossible to charge a non dell battery with an original adapter as long as you have the correct voltage type ie 11.1v as example for your specific machine.
I know of lets say a fair few issues with this, and know Updating the bios has fixed this and sometimes not. On one specific bios flash the end result was the DVD drive disappeared (but thats a vista issue, easy fix)
Bios update may solve this for you

depending on country you reside (tab in left corner to choose country)
if you do decide to charge the battery, charge it fors a fair few hours with the machine off with it being a new battery
hope this helps a little , let me know if i can help further
Hi,
A generic Battery should Work fine.
Try going To my computer/Control Panel/Power options.
You should find a battery Icon, for the Battery if it,s recognised in there. select ( show on Desktop ) And refresh The Battery.
New Batteries usually require to be fully charged. Then Discharged ( no-Mains Power ) for the first 3-4 Charges. So that the Computers power Management System, Can guage the Capacity Of The battery Inserted.

I bought an extended service protection plan on a flat screen TV for my son to take to college (bought it 5/9/09). We pluged it up (7/22/09) to see how it work before he moved 6 hours aways. It worked ok for about 2 weeks. He tried to cut it on and it would not work. I called and reported it. I payed for the shipping to the company. Miles (from their company) signed for it on August 13. They told me it would only take 7 to 10 working days and it would be shipped out. Here we are 20 days later and it still hasn't been fixed. When I email them they say they take them in order. How many can they have broken? How many people working? How would they feel if the shoes were on the other feet?
