Onkyo 1020F direct drive turmtable will not maintain proper speed

My vintage Onkyo 1020F turntable has trouble in maintaining the correct LP speed. During various times it slows down no matter what LP I am playing. I have tried adjusting the play speed dials but it never brings it up to the speed in which the strobe markings appear to be standing still.

Knowledge Article C337191 Error: The message PROTECT or UNPLUG shows in the display.
Follow this procedure to troubleshoot when a PROTECT or UNPLUG error is displayed.
IMPORTANT: The top of the receiver must have proper ventilation to keep from over heating.

  1. Reduce the volume level.
  2. NOTE: If the receiver is played at the maximum volume level it may enter the PROTECT mode. Maximum volume listening will cause the receiver to run hot and drain the output capacitors.
  3. If both the A and B speakers are being powered by the receiver at the same time, turn off the surround sound option.
  4. If protect occurs only when using a DVD player, the sampling frequency may be set too high.
  5. NOTE: Some receivers provide compatibility with the higher sampling frequencies through alternate connections. Consult the user manual for specific information.
  6. Ensure the speaker wiring is not damaged and is properley connected to the back of the receiver and speakers.
  7. If the issue is still unresolved after completing all of the troubleshooting steps, service may be required.

SOURCE: I have a problem adjusting bass and treble. I

Figure out why the TV has so much bass. Look into its audio controls. I'd also consider attaching and listening to the TV-related audio directly and digitally through the Bose from the source(s) rather than through the TV and its questionable electronics.

How do I use the belt drive control +/-10%?

The adjustment you refer to is a speed adjustment. It has a range of about plus or minus ten percent so that you can make minor corrections in platter speed for pitch matching.

How do I connect a disk player (LP)

That would depend on the turntable model andits capabilities. If it's old-school, non-preamplified, you would need an external phono pream first, then run it into the Aux or any other available Line Level input.

Some contemporary turntables have their own selectable internal preamps for use with modern receivers which do not have phono sections. They would jack into any Line Level input.

I have problem with tonearm on my vestax pdx 2000 turntable , no connection with needle , but when I make contacts of the needle wet it sometimes help a bit , but I should do it always to make it work. ...

I'd be checking the weight and height settings of the tonearm. Heres a link to the manual for the deck. There's instructions in there about how to setup up the tonearm properly. Don't be afraid to experiment with it. Just remember, too much weight will wear out your vinyl really quickly. Not enough weight will sound like **** and skip easily. Have fun!

Turntable spinning backwards

If it is a direct drive TT then it uses some electronic circuitry to control speed and it sounds like that circuit is having a problem. Possibly the actual driver IC for the TT motor has gone bad. Good luck.
