No sound last week, the volume control on the speaker itself stopped working and the power lamp indicator went off. but the speakers still work as I was using windows media player although the volume setting is fixed, I cannot increase or decrease volume using the controls on the speaker. today, no sound comes out at all. what could be the problem? can I still have the speakers repaired? thanks

I have altec lansing speakers set up with my PC running XP. Worked great until last week one of the speakers, (right I think) stopped working. Yesterday no sound at all from any speaker except a hum.

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the
(((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer
hope this helps

My speakers stopped working. The yellow light on the volume control is went out. I have checked to make sure everything is plugged in properly and that the power is in the "on" position.

> the light went out

Either the light itself is broken, or the speakers are not getting power, and so the lamp cannot light.

Try the speakers in another computer.

Or, buy a replacement set of speakers.

Worked last week computer crashes now restored speakers don't work now. another set of speakers work. &35's won't work on a different computer, Powers up clicks when plugged in but no sound /

You said, other speakers worked fine ono that pc right? And the speakers doesn't on other computers? Then surely the speakers are now defective. It might be the wirings or internal parts of the speaker. Check warranty of the speakers, if it is expired, then you have to replace the speakers.
