Samsung HCM4215W convergence problem

My Samsung HCM4215W has a convergence problem. I replaced the entire convergence board and now I am trying to adust it manually and it won't move at all. What did I do wrong? Is there a setting that won't allow it to move or did I do it wrong? I double checked that everything was plugged in correctly. Help!

Thanks
Angi

I go to the menu, under funtions, convergence, then i select red or blue (right? the green doesn't move if i remember correctly). it brings me to a screen that has cross hatches on it and i am suppose to move with my remote, to match up the crosses. they don't move at all.

I'm pretty sure...and no, they don't move at all. in the manual it says the perfect focus won't move if the dtv 480p (or something) is on...what does that mean? How do i find that?

  • Angi25 Jan 05, 2008

I downloaded one from the internet. I will take a look. Thanks.

  • Angi25 Jan 05, 2008

iS THERE SOMETHING ELSE IT MAY BE CALLED? I DID A WORD SEARCH FOR RESOLUTION. CAME BACK WITH 0 FINDS.

  • Angi25 Jan 05, 2008

Okay, that IS my problem. I went to deomonstration and it said i was in 480p whatever the heck that is. I have NO IDEA how to change that. It said when dtv was hooked up (also dont know what that is) it would automatically go to 480p. How do I change that? If I can change that, I can use perfect focus.

My manual does not say how to get out of that.

So close yet so far. :)

ok sounds like thats correct, do they move even a little bit? are you sure you have all the connectors back on and are tight and not upside down?
where did you have the board serviced?

Ill have to look up the part numbers , but it is a common problem caused by the convergence board at the back of the device. replace the TDA*** for the color that is faulty and the problem should be solved.
After replacing the TDA*** you need to adjust the convergence again and perform an auto-fucus and convergense adjust again

Another Question Please.

Horizontal lines can be cause by many things. One of which is the convergence module. $130.00 is a little high for something that can be caused by other things as well.

Samsung HCM4215w has wavy red lines and bowtie effect

Are you saying that after installing a new convergence board, you still have the same issue? If that's the case, another new board isn't going to resolve this. Also, you can't do a factory reset. Doing that would lose all the convergence and geometry data in the TV and would require a qualified technician hours of work to restore the settings. If you've installed a new board and have the same problem, suspect a problem in the TV's power supply. All convergence circuits require 2 voltages to operate. There will be a postive and a negative voltage of the same value. If you're missing either of these voltages, your convergence will never work properly.

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.
