I have a Microsoft Multimedia keyboard 1.1 and

I have a Microsoft Multimedia keyboard 1.1 and optical mouse connected through a desktop receiver 2.1. I have checked the batteries and they are fine. I have also tried resetting the switch on the receiver and on the keyboard and mouse but I still do not have a connection. I have plugged the receiver into another usb port in case it was the port but that does not fix the problem. There are no lights on the receiver at all.
