How do I clean the printheads. HP J4580

How do I clean the printheads. Printed page is 1/2inch clear and 1/2 inch blank----with black ink. The color bar shows it is empty, but is it needed for B/W jobs?

Use distilled water and cotton swabs. remove the cartridges from the printer an lay them on their side on a piece of paper with the strips facing up. Wet the cotton swab a squeez out all the water.

Wipe the print cartridge copper contacts with the cotton swab. Repeat this process until no ink residue or dust appears on the swab.

Do not touch the print cartridge ink nozzles. Touching the ink nozzles will result in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical connections
