My Matshita DVD-Ram UJ831s was working OK-ish but all of a sudden it's decided not to play dvds will play cds though? I get an I/O device error warning when I try to manually open d drive files. Also have been having problems burning I never know when it will actually work or decide to give me an error (error more often than not).
Physicall your DVD-Ram is defective. I have encountered like this before and what I do is change it a new drive. No more hope to read such DVD but rather than CDs is OK. It is due to not often use with your DVD-Ram. Before I check it in computer center but later on it fails again so I buy a new one. It's said the Speedometer is the problem or the "EYE LENS". Can read CD's but cannot read DVDs. Good luck!
