Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

2 Answers

No connection When trying to install new router I am getting a message"not able to connect to internet..." and the internet light on the router is blinking (all the other lights are steady) After I recconect my cable router to "main" computer everything is fine. I have tried different cables, all seem to be OK. but as soon as I connect cable modem to my wireless router I am loosing internet connection on the "main" PC. Where is the problem My modem is a Westell E90-6100 15-06 set for DSL. I have a good internet connection. However, when the Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G is connected to the modem. Linksys Easy Link Adviser starts the set up configures the modem and then tells me that there is no internet connection. I went on line with Linksys Tech support. The process was painful and their system very slow and inadequate. They said that since my the default gateway is 192.168.1.1 and the router has the same and my connection for the ISP is PPPoE that their router is also set to 192.168.1.1 & is in conflict being the same. They could not tell me how to change the settings to make it work

Ok here is what you do

1.) disconnect your internet cable
2.) connect your router to your computer
3.) in internet explorer type 192.168.1.1
4.) enter your username and password
5.) click on Lan
6.) In the ip address box change your router ip to a new ip
e.g. 192.168.1.2
7.) Click on DHCP AND ENABLE THE DHCP SERVER
8.) Click on wan
9.) In Wan settings choose static ip address
10.) set the static ipaddress to the ipaddress you entered for your router
11.) set your subnet mask
12.) In the isp gateway enter your modem ip e.g 192.168.0.1
13.) as your primary dns enter your modem ip e,g 192.168.0.1
14 save changes and exit

YOU CAN HAVE THE ROUTER AUTOMATICALLY ASSIGN AN IP ADDRESS TO EACH SYSTEM OR YOU CAN SET IT AUTOMATICALLY

FOR AUTOMATIC ASSIGN JUST CONNECT THE CABKLE

FOR STATIC IP(recommended)
double click on the network icon to the buttom of your screen e.g LOCAL AREA CONNECTION

Click on Properties

Double Click on Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)

Enter the ip address you want the computer to have using the same 3 bloacks as your router e.g 192.168.1.10

Enter your sub net mask

Enter the ip for your moden in defaul gateway e.g 192.168.1.1

Enter the Prefered Dns as also your Modem ip 192.268.1.1

cheers

Sir I have been up al night trying to figure out why my so\uggestion did not help you, the only things i can think of is

1.) Enter the Prefered Dns as also your Modem ip 192.268.1.1

thats the last line of my suggestion ]

that you did not enter your modem ip, instead you enter 192.268.1.1, which was intended as an example and not to enter it

2.) you did not follow the instructions accordingly and might have left some thing out,

3.) there was some other problem,

It bothers me that you paid for this advice and we did not solve your problem , could you please post exactlyt what you did to resolve the issue

Of HAVING A ROUTER WITH THE SAME IP AND A MODEM WITH THE SAME IP,

If you did not assign different ip's as we suggested , how did you solve it, maybe it might be of help to other people, cause i dont know of anyother way than the one we described above.

I connect fine to it but cannot get to internet

This is not a trivial task but to start, I presume that your Wireless Router is connected to an ADSL or CABLE modem:
1) Make sure that you can connect to the Internet/Web directly from the ADSL/CABLE modem. 2) Once you have step 1 validated, connect your Wireless router to the ADSL/CABLE modem. 3) Ensure that you can communicate to the Wireless router and use Netgear supplied software - I suggest that you connect your PC/LAPTOP used for configuration directly via an ETHERNET cable attached to your router: 'NETGEAR's Smart Wizard™ makes the set-up of the RangeMax™ wireless router easy and hassle-free. Smart Wizard automatically detects your ISP's network settings, then walks you through each step of the installation proces' 4) When the installation is finish, try connecting to the internet via the ETHENET cable on your router. If it does not work, the FIREWALL on the ADSL/CABLE MODEM may be blocking the port and needs to be opened/disabled. 5) You can now concentrate in getting the WIFI working by first using an 'unsecured/no encrytion' connection by setting an appropriate SSID. 6) Once setp 5 is working, you SHOULD NOW SECURE your Wifi connection by using a selected encryption (such as WEP or better) and security key.
ps. you will get this 'limited access' message if anywhere in the device chains the IP addresses cannot be resolved.

4200 speedstream modem problem

I guess you probably aint set-up a wireless router before, what you need to do is get it connected up so you revieve local area is connected then, load internet explorer you will recieve a message like page not displayed. where you usually type in www.ebay.com for example type in the number thats on the bottom of the router ie it looks somthing like this 192.168.1.1 for example. a menu will then appear, fill in your broadband username details etc and you should be up and going, if you have problems feel free to email me,, All the best John Auctionscotland@tiscali.co.uk

I cannot get connected to the internet.

If I understand you correctly you currently have a computer connected directly to your ADSL Internet connection and it can connect to the Internet. When you disconnect the computer, connect the DG834G router to the Internet connection and then connect the computer to the router you loose the Internet connection. It sounds like a ?simple? case of the router not being configured correctly. What I would suggest is to reset the router to its default configuration and follow the installation instructions again from the start. I?m not a big fan of the software configuration wizards that these home routers come with BUT they are the best way to easily configure the typical installation. To reset the router: in-between the 4 Ethernet LAN ports and the ADSL port there is a small reset button. Press and hold the reset button until the test LED turn on (about 10 seconds). Release the button and wait for the router to reboot. Let us know if this works or not. If you still have problems the more details and error messages you can supply the better.
