Problem for Acer Aspire 5315 PC Notebook. This notebook will power up but nothing is happening on the moniter and even on a external moniter. I cannot tell if it is even booting as the hard drive light or any of the other lights are flashing or on when turned on. I have tried pulling out the ram/hard drive ext and have not found anything wrong. The fan does run but that seems to be it.

As per Acer repair policy, cracked screen is not covered under standard warranty. They will charge you $199 inorder to replace the screen. However, if know any local retailer or tech you can consult with them.

Fn + F5 is what changes external display mode on acer laptops. Press and hold Fn, then press and release F5 to change between three modes:
Laptop display only.
Both displays.
External display only.
OR....
You need to go into your display properties and extend your desktop onto the external monitor. If this doesn't solve it, let me know :)

first, check for VGA drivers, make sure all installed and updated (or SV-) then go to your desktop properties and make sure you have selected the second moniter through the port your using.

If you are connecting with external monitor, then you have to toggle the display Fn+F5 together, still not getting the display then,

Unplug battery and adapter,
Press and hold the power button for 20 sec
then try to turn on the computer

Since, there is no display even when an external monitor is connected to the Notebook, this confirms that the issue is with graphics card.
As with most of the Notebook, the graphics card installed in this notebook is also integrated on the Motherboard and is not user replaceable. In this case, the complete motherboard is changed. So, it's required to contact any service center to get it replaced without damaging any other internal components.

go to the control panel, mouse configuration , and try to turn on the touch pad

Possibly the monitor is defective - usually most laptops have a blue plug at the back for an external monitor, if plugging in a normal monitor brings up a screen, then likely the laptop monitor is defective. If you get a splash screen and bios info on trying to start it,it indicates your windows is defective or has lost it's start-up files - a windows reinstall will fix that.

i know your problem. even if you change the inverter it will not work. the real problem of your notebook is vga memory or video memory. use hot air to resolder your memory. trust me!

unplug the battery from the pc( no power ) for a while ,something is locking up in the IC chips , if this is an eternal device
