Question about Hitachi 42EDT41 42 in. HD-Ready Plasma Television
Yes, this is an LG/Zenith unit. You have one of two things going on here. 1) the X-driver board for that segment has failed (this is the board that the ribbon cable plugs into) or 2) the COF has failed on the ribbon itself. If you remove the two screws holding the metal plate that is attached to that ribbon, you will see components embedded in the ribbon. The ic may be visibly damaged or may have failed internally. Also, there are surface mount resistors on there too. Sometimes these open up, or are loose. Check for proper value and/or touch-up with soldering iron.
When neither of these solutions work, then the complete pdp display assembly will need to be replaced. Chances are the warranty company will replace the unit for the customer due to cost and/or part availability...Jeff :-) Recommend a trained person to check these
