Memorex CD-R problem reading files

My computers wont read my Memorex CDR disc. I have photo files burned to it under two folders. When I insert my cd it says the date/time they files were burned to the disc, along with how much memory is left on the disk.
I can see the two folders but when I double click on them to retrieve my images nothing happens. Can you please help?

I have black Memorex CD-R's, which I did not have problems burning on my Dell (Windows Vista) for months. However, now my Dell will not even recognize the discs. I've tried several. I've also tried...

Basically this is going to be either a dirty lens inside (rare) or the drive has just worn outside its operating limits.

You may have noticed that the drive was taking longer to read or seemed to be finding more errors.
Since the system is still finding the drive it won't be a driver or connection problem. What you need to do is try a commercial cd. Doesn't matter what it is as long as it is a commercial. These are made in a different manner so they can be read while your burned cd can't. If you can read it still then you have abit of life left in it as a reader but it won't be accurate enough to burn any cd's. If you try some of the cd;s you have burned in other computers you should find they read just fine unless they were burned while the alignment is out. Then nothing will read them.

This is the typical way cd and dvd drives fail or are at end of life. Laptops tend to do this very quickly but desktops will last much longer. Anyway the only good fix for this is to replace it. A dvd/cd burner can be found for $30 for a desktop. A laptop unit is $100 or so.

Opening a memorex cd

It is always possible the person has even less knowledge of burning than you do... And they may have not done it correctly. There are a few different possibilities, of which may not be good for you. The best way for the files to be retrieved, is to put it back in the other PC and try to open. If the person did an open write ( didn't close out the disk ) You need to have a PC, writer/reader, and software that can open it up... Also, in a few rare instances, the drives have slight differences that the 2 can't read disks that are created by the other... There is also a slight possibility that the person went through the motions, and actually burned nothing. And finally, the CD Drive you have may be shot... Try another cd, and make sure that your drive works...
