Re: wireless router

Security mode is DISABLED by default. In order to turn this on you need to go to the router configuration page. Go to in your browser and enter Admin for the username and admin for the password. Click on the Wireless button, then Wireless security. This is where you configure the security settings.

You said that the Internet connection is dropping. It is a modem *** router.
If there is any MTU settings , then reduce the MTU.
For example If MTU is 1500 then reduce it to 1400.
Otherwise you will need to upgrade the Firmware of the router.

When you enter a WEP key, you must completely redo the new connection on the PC, remove the adapter and start all over again as in reinstall the driver, then do the connect to network, thing. BTW, you MUST save the setting in the router, and reboot the router, and then reboot PC, and then try to establish a connection. You should also use this tip, when you generate that BIG number WAP?WEP Key, copy/paste it to a notepad document, and save as wapkey. No after saving it in router and rebooting, when you come to the Field to enter the WAP/WEP key when logging onto the Router, you can simply copy & paste back from that notepad document you saved before. Now you should be able to login, remember to save network setting too. so you don't have to enter it each time you login.

How do i setup my wireless linksys model wcg200?

The wireless settings that you need to take note of are:
a. SSID - this is the name of your wireless network
b. SSID Broadcast - an indication if your SSID is showing on the list of networks available
c. Wireless Security - serves as the password for your wireless network

To check the wireless settings on the Linksys router, follow the steps below.
Checking the Wireless Settings on the Linksys Router
Step 1:
Access the router's web-based setup page. For instructions, click here. If you are using a Mac computer to access the web-based setup page, click here.
Step 2:
When the router's web-based setup page appears, click Wireless.

Look for Wireless Network Name (SSID). If it's still set to "linksys", change it to something unique then click 6-4680.jpg NOTE: Take note if SSID Broadcast is Enabled or Disabled. If it is Enabled, it means your SSID will show among the list of wireless networks available when any wireless device will search for a network to connect to. If it is Disabled, it will not be visible.

Step 4:
Click the Wireless Security subtab and take note of the current Security Mode.
If Security Mode is set to WEP:
4678-007.png If Security Mode is set to WPA:
4678-013.png You can change your WPA shared key if you want to personalize it. It should be a minimum of eight and a maximum of 63 characters long.

How do i secure my connection so no one else can use it

Go into your router settings by typing into your internet explorer window. By default the user name is left blank and the password is admin. Click on the wireless tab then the wireless security underneath that. If the security mode is set to anything other than disabled then you are already secure. If it is disabled then choose your security mode to set it up. I would use either WPA - personal or WEP.

the key number will be listed in the router settings as you must have security enabled in the router, if you cannot find it then simply reset the router at the rear of the unit and start again as there will be no security key number and all the settings will be back to factory default.
