The USB port on my computer works. When I plug it in to the docking station, it does not recognize that anything is in the port. I have been using a usb mouse to see if it gets power. So the answer to your question is that it doesnt seem to have anything work in the docking station usb port. My email is lorenedopp@aol.com or my cell is 847-652-6865 if you have any other suggestions. I really appreciate your help on this.

When I plug a USB mouse directly into my computer it works fine. When I snap the computer into the docking station(which does have power to the docking station,) and then plug the USB mouse into the docking station USB port, there is no power at all to the mouse. I have an optical mouse and the red led light doesnt come on at all.,, so I am concluding there is no power to the USB port.

How can i update dell dock?

A docking station is an extension or addition of ports for a laptop computer. Once the portable computer is docked, you can access the docking station's ports, such as PS/2 or USB 2.0 ports, through your computer. Some docking stations have monitors that you can connect your computer to, placing your video on an external screen so you can turn off your computer's monitor and conserve some of your computer's energy. All Dell docking stations will have the same general troubleshooting steps.

Plug your laptop's power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If there is no power going to your laptop from the docking station but it works when the power adapter is plugged into the wall, the docking station is bad and needs to be replaced. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power goes on but your computer doesn't recognizes accessories such as a USB mouse--plugged into the docking station, try a different port on the station. If it works in a different port, the previous USB port is burned out. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power is going through the docking station but no accessories are being recognized, you might have a corrupted docking profile. Undock the computer and dock it again once it has fully started up to reset the docking profile. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If you have an external monitor and it is not working, completely close the lid on the laptop so the image will move to the external monitor. Plug your power adapter into the docking station and dock your laptop onto/into the docking station. If power is going through the docking station but no accessories are being recognized and resetting the docking profile fails, update all drivers through Dell's support website and then re-dock the computer. Some of the software that runs the hardware may have become corrupted. Hope this helps

You probably have a fried board in the port rep. after a power surge. Fixing it will probably cost you more that getting a replacement. Other option is to find a used one.

Hello Jackie.

2 of youre USBs are USB 3. so you need to install the right drivers for USB 3.
Also you should check youre BIOS settings, if there is an option to enable "XHCI" support so enable it. (USB 3 needs this to work ).

We have an Inspirion 6000 with this problem and we've discovered if you pull the power cord out very slightly and lift it upwards, the charging icon appears in the system tray.

my friend has a latitude d600 that has the power port messed up in the back of the computer. i got him this thing, some people call it a docking station some people call it a port replicator, but you dock the computer to it and then you plug your power into the docking station and it charges it that way. you get extra usb ports and stuff like that and there is no repair involved. i dont know if you would want to try something like that maybe.
