Before I went on vacation I log off and turned off my laptop. When I returned from my 3 weeks vacation I tried to turn on my laptop but it does not turn on. I left it plugged in over night and still not turning on. The converter does not get warm so I tried a similar converter with the same output voltage and still not turning on. I also tried to removed the battery pack and held the power button for a minute and then put the battery back and still not turning on.

I had the same problem and I have been all over the internet looking for specifics to my Toshiba Laptop P105-S6147 including the Toshiba website. NO HELP. Finally I gave up and decided to look here one more time just using " Toshiba Laptop won't turn on". I was so tired and frustrated trying to find an answer, I almost tossed the laptop. I decided to try johnny6600's suggestion and YEAH IT WORKS!!!!!!!!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! Absolutely wonderful! You should post this solution everywhere!

I mean, if I had the money to take it to repair shop I wouldn't be searching the internet for an answer. I don't think I would have wasted so many hours trying to find a solution. THANK YOU SO MUCH,

    A much Happier Tessa!

My Toshiba Laptop will not charge even though the charger is connected and plugged in. I have tried several different outlets and have had no luck. Right now, the laptop is running on battery alone and should be completely out of power within the next two hours. Any suggestions on what might be the problem? Anything I can do to fix it?

You probably have never cleaned the dust accumulated inside your computer... and also you have not used laptop cooler under your computer... It is possible that you burned the chipset beacause your computer could not cool itself anymore.

Unplug the Charger Remove the Battery ... Hold Power button for 1 minute ... i know its hard but its worth it ... try to turn it on only by plunging in by charger if its wont start .... move to next step ....(1st be sure that ur Laptop warranty is over... if not contact the store where u buy it).. open the RAM cover remove RAM's clean them with erasers ...now look carefully the Motherboard with RAMS removed ... u will notic on PCB there is a shap like button on the Circuit if u cant see it there must be a label Remove the label carefully not to damage it ..now put back only the Top RAM ... if u locate the Button like zig zag lines which are not coated with color are easily visible .. connect both lines with flat screw driver.. hold it for 10 Seconds... now Plug in Your Charger push the power on Button i hope ....... its start up and give u the display .. i did it once with toshiba.. just previous week and it was fine ..have a nice day

Had the same problem with my Toshiba Satellite M45- S265. Solution turned up after pressing every key on the keyboard. The one that did it was the little button under the start button which had a world above it (looks like the Starwars Deathstar with arrows around it). It's with a set of black buttons that look like start, stop, rewind buttons on an old cassette deck.
Try pressing the Deathstar button and let me know what happens! What idiots would put a killer button under the startup button???

I have an L505 S5984 Best Buy model Toshiba as well as an older Toshiba which is still running. My newer laptop would not start and only showed the power light on the front which showed it was getting power. Removing the battery and switching power packs did not help. Pressing the power button with the battery removed for 30 seconds did not help.Next I unplugged and removed the battery. I removed the optical drive or dvd player which was easy because it is only held in with one screw. I replaced the battery and plugged in and Immediately it booted up and ran fine. I was prepared to remove the hard drive next and see if bios would work then but luckily i didn't have to because it was a short in the optical drive that kept it from powering up. Try removing these two components first and seeing if it will boot before blaming the motherboard or processor. Before doing this I thought I had a serious problem.

It's a shame that Toshiba laptops have this problem. I will never buy another Toshiba product. I spent $100 while under warranty days after I bought it, and it has never been a reliable computer. Back to Dell. I tell anyone who asks me about a computer to not buy a Toshiba. Bad service, bad computer, bad company to deal with.

Take the battery out and turn it on, if it works, the electronics in the battery are bad, if it doesn't, the power converter is probably bad. maybe you can take the battery out and leave the ac adapter plugged in but the laptop turned OFF for a day or so. sometimes electronics build up a static charge and it causes the electronics to not work properly. good luck.

Q545 is a voltage regulator (2 IC in paralel), but does any one the part no or IC name of that? On my laptop they're damaged and i can't read IC name exept for the last 2 characters "YA"!

  • Mark Downing Jan 31, 2013

Does anybody have a photo or diagram of where to find the Q545 voltage regulator IC's? Are they next to the batter connector?? It would be nice to know the exact location on the motherboard and I haven't been able to find a motherboard diagram on the internet.

Laptop won't start, bummer. If the power light is on then you are getting power and your power brick is probably ok. Try removing the battery and just running off of the power brick. No luck? Try borrowing another power brick or go to the next step which is unplug, remove battery and press power button for 30 seconds. If this doesn't work the next step is to remove the optical drive and see if it boots. No luck? remove the hard drive and try to boot. If bios doesn't appear there is probably a problem with the motherboard or display or some component too difficult for you to repair easily. Take it to a technician. Good luck.

bad power connector, or other loose component. the power socket in laptop is nearly always the culprit due to in out of socket. sometimes the connectors can be moved to make a secure connection. if connector is loose u may not realise the battery isnt charging until its so low only mains is running it and then as soon as connection lost system crashes..

This is for anybody else out there who might have this problem in the future......

I tried all the above, no joy!

I had the luxury of another M70 spare so I decided to swap out the Power circuit board, and it now works. However I tested the 'faulty' board back in the spare M70 and it is still functioning.

So my conclusion is that simpoly unpluging the power circuit board from behind the keyboard would have sorted it.

I tried all solutions but opening up the back of the machine. Nothing worked. I took some 3M Dust Remover and sprayed the ultra-cold gas in the openings, waited a few minutes, and then turned it on. It powered up right away. Not sure if it was due to the "static charge" someone had spoken about earlier. I just had a mother board replaced one month ago for the same issue, so I knew it probably wasn't that.

This could be a few things. It could be a bad power cord not charging the battery or the machine. But it could also be various other things. The cheapest and easiest thing to try is a new power adapter.

Why Won't My Toshiba Satellite Laptop (A200 -AH3) Not Burn Discs?

Look for any software on the machine that uses the the burner. Start by updating it (many of these programs use what are called burning engines to process the request to write to a cd, and if theyre damaged, then the writing process will appear to occur, but wont do anything). If you use programs that download and manage music (such as Limewire, Bearshare, or Napster), uninstall them.
As a last ditch effort, you can try the istructions in this Microsoft article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Be warned, you will have to reinstall the software needed to burn your CDs if you do this. It has fixed 99% of CD burning issues out there. Good luck

Power down

I know the original post is over 2 years old but I had the same problem. Here's what happened:

8 months after buying my Toshiba A135 the battery began charging only intermittently. It also would not run without the battery. I put up with it for a month then took it back to Best Buy to get it repaired under warranty. They kept it over 2 weeks then gave it back saying it was the battery, which they replaced. One week later I had the same problem again. Back to Best Buy. The guy at the counter said it was probably the battery, they had encountered a lot of that. I said no, explained it, and gave it over to be fixed. 2 weeks later I got it back. They had reset the BIOS, no hardware replacement. I got it home and it was not fixed. I took it back the next day. They kept it 2 more weeks. They replaced the motherboard. I took it home and...you guessed it the same problem on the day I got it home!!! I took it back with one week left on my warranty. I don't remember what they replaced the last time but I think it was the motherboard again. I got it home (2 weeks later) and THE SAME PROBLEM on the day I got it home. So, the lesson there is that Best Buy computer maintenance SUCKS!!

I called Toshiba to try to get them to fix it for free, and out of warranty. After several frustrating minutes of conversation with an accented person who just kept telling me that my warranty was up, I hung up and called back and got an English speaking person. SHE was very helpful, listened to my problem, agreed to give me a one-time fix ticket. They paid for the postage. When I got my computer back it was mostly fixed.

The problem was the module at the back of the computer where the power cord plugs in. It was defective. They replaced it and it worked fine after that, except that when it goes into sleep mode it will not wake up. I fixed that by turning off all the sleep mode options. BTW, a friend of mine with the same computer is now having the same problem.

Hi

You can obtain the Recovery disk from Toshiba. Toshiba hotline number 1-800-457-7777 (US) 0844 800 6020 (UK). You need to provide your computer's part number correct to get the matching recovery disk. Usually they charges $39.95 including shipping to your address in US. Alternately you can go to http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/generic_content.jsp?service=UK&ID=Support_Homepage_uk
