I am running a 300W power supply, do you think i need more?

  • Shuwizzle Jan 13, 2008

I'm having the same problem. Hit the power button and the fan moves a little but, but also a red LED light comes on. I have the book for the motherboard and this is what it says about the LED1 light - the red indicator LED1 turns on if your system is still powered, at which time memory modules cannot be installed or uninstalled - any idea what that means? I pull out both memory slots and put them back in, but didn't work.

I have 1 also... Same condition as above, both fan twitches a little as power button was hit. But mine 1 its power capacitor rated 6.3V/3300uF sit around d CPU is bulged on the top, 8 of them also bulged... I suspect something wrong with it...replaced other smaller bulged capacitor, still waiting spare parts for the 8capacitors.

I encounter before with my Winfast A170 G4 mx440se DDR graphic card, replaced a bulged power capacitor, whoala...it become normal again and very overclockable and flicker free like new one...I OC it till 350MHz/433MHz, still stable and artifact free as i play NFS Underground with it althou i din really test this setting with any graphic testing program.

Thanks everyone. In my case it was the power supply. I installed a new one myself and everything was working once again. Well almost. Don't forget to hook up the floppy drive (if you still have one on your computer, ha). I was wondering what that small plug was for.

Just buy a new 500w power supply..and walaaaaa! its done

Posted on Feb 04, 2008

Ok, here's how my computer geek solved it. First he made sure all the jumpers where in the right position. Then he took the power supply and ran a wire between the black and orange wire (Not exactly sure if this was the exact colors, I'll be updating as soon as I know for sure!) What that does is it tells the motherboard to start, regardless if it is having feedback problems with the power supply, low and behold there was a resister that was bad, smoke came from it right away, face it guys, these are terrible motherboards and are known to have resisters go out all the time. Once one goes out, there is nothing you can do!

Similar problem here, took the power supply out and replaced with a known working one but getting same result, plugged old power supply i removed into another computer and it works fine, not a power supply problem.
cleared out dust and reseated cpu and memory modules thinking something was abit out of place, no joy.
unattached everything from mother board, hdd , dvdrom just cpu fan, memory and video card attached now, still no joy.
cpu fan twitches so power is getting through.... *scratches head.

Make sure you have the correct memory speed for that motherboard. Also go into the BIOS and set everything to default.

I am wanting to take the cpu fan off to clean and reinstall some thermal compound but I am not sure how to take the cpu fan off

Release the clamps that hold the heat sink, and carefully give it a slight twist to break the compound grip, and lift off. The CPU should remain in it's socket.

Hi guys, I'm new in this forum and I really need some help. I have a p4vmm2 motherboard with Intel Celeron 2.0 Ghz CPU and I want to upgrade it with Intel Pentium 2.4 CPU motherboard. I have already tried...

Whenever you try to upgrade motherboard and CPU's with Windows XP, you're probably going to have to format your drive and re-install XP. When you originally install XP it detects the motherboard and IDE controlers for your hard drives and installs the drivers needed but it doesn't install all drivers for motherborads and IDE controlers. When you swap out motherboards and the system tries to fire it doesn't have drivers available for the new motherboard and can't complete the boot into windows. Every once in a while you get luck and the new and old motherboard can use the same drivers but this is very rare. So when upgrading motherboards plan on backing up your hard drive of all files you need to keep and being prepared to format and re-install windows.

I get no output from an LC-350 ATX BIAS SUPPLY

DOES THE SWITCH HAVE 4 REMOVABLE CONNECTION, IF SO THE POWER SUPPLY MAYBE HOOKED UP WRONG, REMOVE ALL WIRES AND CONNECTION FROM THE MOTHERBOARD LEAVE ONLY THE POWER CONNECTION AND THE VEDIO MONITOR CABLE, ADD ONE CONNECTION AT A TIME AND TURN SYSTEM OFF AND ON UNTIL YOU HAVE A PROBLEM AND I KNOW IT IS ALOT OF WORK THAT WHY YOU PAY SO MUCH FOR A COMPUTER EXPERT TO LOOK AT YOU COMPUTER DESKTOP OR LABTOP.

VIDeo CARD not working

You will need drivers for the FX5000 first, disable the driver for the one your using, shut down and then install the new FX5000, boot up and wait until the VGA comes on, it can take several mins sometimes.

Possible cpu upgrades for p4vmm2 motherboard

I see that you have already had this answered at Techspot.com They were right when they answered you, you need to check your MB manual to see if it is capable of upgrading to the CPU that you want to use, not all MB support all CPU's just because they both have 478 pins. I looked on the ASUS website and they don't even list your MB model on there.
