Question about Sony STR-DG510 Receiver

1 Answer

Subwoofer conection I have just bought the sony STR-DG510 reciever and the subwoofer has an RCA jack. I would like to use my old sony subwoofer which has two wire leads. I thought that splicing a rca jack to the end of the wires would work but I do not know whick woud be the possitive and negative wires on the rca jack or if this will even work. can this work or do I need to buy a new subwoofer?

Re: subwoofer conection

Ideally you want a speaker wire to RCA adapter like this one.

Does the tv have an optical output jack? If so, that is probably the easiest way.

Connecting a Sony Subwoofer SA-W2500 to a STR DE 598

It is based on your sub-woofer type..whether powered or passive sub woofer..
Assume that you have powered one..RCA sub woofer jack is the best to feed it should use RCA sub woofer output on your receiver as well..good luck

Can't get surround sound when watching tv

your RCA on your tv is acting like its in may be a problem with the jacks. can buy a splitter and split teh side that sounds stronger (L) or (R) with a male to 2 female spliter out of the tv then back into l/r input on your reciever... It wont give you surround stereo...but it will soudn a whole lot better.

No video output using either HDMI or component video

Make sure that these inputs are enabled. I'd have to confirm within the manual, but I believe that these have the HDMI section disabled by default.

SONY STR-DG510 Sub woofer does not work

You will need a powered sub because your receiver does not amplify in the sub output.

No picture?

I called sony, even though the manuel shows that you can use a component wire to hook up the set top box and hdmi for the tv and dvd sony claims that you can not do this. The cable box must also be wired with an hdmi cable going into the video 2 claims it doesn't work using component and hdmi together because the receiver is unable to up convert. I hope this helps. I have not tried it yet (i'm at work) we'll see what happens when i get home.

Subwoofer Connection: Speaker wire to Mono RCA

The easiest solution to use your subwoofer is to buy an amp for it. Any old stereo receiver from a garage sale will probably do just fine.
  1. Connect the mono RCA subwoofer output from your Sony with a 1xRCA-to-2xRCA splitter to both the left and right input of the cheap reciever's tape or aux input
  2. connect both speaker outputs of the cheap reciever to the speaker input on your subwoofer. make sure both black (-) outputs on the reciever connect to the black input on the sub, and the red outputs (+) on the reciever are both connected to the red input on the subwoofer.
  3. make sure the cheap receiver's volume is all the way down. turn your Sony up to about the loudest you'll listen to it. turn up the subwoofer amp until it's loud enough to sound good.
  4. leave the subwoofer amp alone, the Sony volume will all you ever need to touch from now on.

You can even now turn off your subwoofer / adjust the volume easily now!
