My Brother MFC-240C is insisting I have a paper jam. I removed the paper but it won't reset. Is there a way to reset this?

After you look inside on the right and left sides where the carriage travels for any paper scraps, you can unplug and plug back in while you hold the stop button and it might clear the error.

Sometimes the 240C gets caught up in the jam condition and won't clear. You have to turn the printer off manually and then turn it back on -- hold the power button down for a few seconds. If the printer won't shut down, pull the power cord, wait a couple of seconds, and then reinsert it.

SOURCE: paper jam in brother MFC 240C

Usually small pieces of paper are jammed at the print head area. Lift up the scanner and see if you can find the paper at the print head parking area, clear the paper . If you can't find the paper, remove the scanner cables, then the scanner. You will see 2 screws at the rear and one near the USB connection. Another 3 screws towards the front will remove the front panel. Under the panel remove 4 screws and the two panel harnesses. The is a speaker harness which you must remember to attach back later (most people don't remember to put back). Lift up the top cover and you can see the whole engine. Clear any pieces of paper that might be there.

Multi-Function Center MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer: i get the message "print unable 36" displayed on m...

Error code 36 is generally because of a paper jam that was not cleared. Remove the rear jam cover (the plastic cover in the back center of the machine)and the paper tray and check for any pieces of paper. Sometimes just a scrap will remain, but it's enough to cause the machine to not work.

Once you've replaced the covers, if the jam code does not reset, turn the machine off and then back on.

How do i reset a brother mfc 240c

To reset the MFC-240C, hold down the power button for 3 or 4 seconds. The lights on the display should go out and the printer should slowly turn itself off. Once it is off, hit the power button again to restart it.

If the power button does not work (as sometimes happens with paper jams or other error conditions) you can unplug the machine's power cord in order to reset it.

Brothe MFC-240C paper jam error msg won't clear

**, it is not fixed. I followed instructions on Brother web site and was able to find a piece of paper near the printhead, so I removed it. The printer makes a grinding sound when it tries to print and the same paper jam error returns and can't be cleared. I beleive that the printer repair cost will be more expensive than replacing it with a different printer, and it won't be Brother brand. I probably would not be able or have the tools to do any complicated repair job.
