Question about Kenmore 63672 Convection/Microwave Oven

2 Answers

Erratic keypad I have an erratic keypad. That is some times a key works and sometimes it does not. At the moment the START key will not work but sometimes it is a number key, or sometimes both and then suddenly the Start key works again. I had my grandson lift out from the wall so I could unplug it and plug it back in. Then the key pad worked for a day and then now The START is not working again. Any help for this or is it a major repair job? Monica

Have a Kenmore model 721.62624200 microwave with a similar erratic keypad. Only a few of the quick touch keys work and most of the numbers. But niether the 'add minute' nor the 'Start' buttons work. At this point the microwave is hardly useable. I will try the cleaning suggestion.

It must be dissassembed Clean both surfaces (pad bottom surface and board up surface so they would have good contact) with alcohol solution liquid sweep and let them be dry. Next assemble it again and test it. if START KEY persit not working even if it is clean, a small leaf of aluminium must be stuck at the pad bottom of START KEY. Be sure you can carry out this procedure well done otherwise you 'll need to buy another keypad. Good Luck!

Hotpoint microwave will not shut off

Make sure that the program controller is working if not check power - step down supply, the pads are responding- if not faulty pads- or the door switches, if the switch contact are not good then it will not trigger the processor to switch on the waveguides. If the lights or fan work without any display or action of program being triggered to start then it can be a possible fault on the main board or the processor. Sometimes insect secretion can short the board and display panel and so the processor can work in such an erratic manner. If so clean, solder and reset the board. The problem is in the keypad control board, eventually it will need to be replaced, also there may be a intermittent short in the keypad membrane this is where a professional will be needed to make that determination.

It sounds like the keypad is worn out. The fact that you can get them to work sometimes by what direction you push on them, tells me that the contacts are not working correctly.

Did you have this problem prior to the fuse blowing or did it start after you replaced the fuse?

I don't believe the fuse blowing is related to the keypad problem. I also don't believe that you have a microprocessor problem because you say that the function buttons work but the number keys don't work right. If the microprocessor was faulty, it would not be able to read any of the keys.

The fact that the number keys are not working doesn't surprise me. When you go to cook something, you will press the number keys several times, while only pressing start or stop once. This is why your number keys have worn out first. These keys have a limited number of cycles (presses) and it sounds like its time for a new keypad.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good Luck!

LG LMVM2055SB over the range microwave keys not working

Is it possible someone may have sprayed cleaner directly onto the keypad area?

This causes moisture to get into the keypad and sometimes onto the control board.

This could mean that they control panel frame with keypad (membrane switch) would need to be replaced.

Can you give more details on the cleaning?
