I have a lexmark x1270.

I have a lexmark x1270. When I print the job terminates at 99%. I am using SP3. I have tried to go back to SP2, unintsall the printer and change back to SP3 but there is no change. I have tested the same printer on another computer and works fine. Any ideas?

- I did what you suggested but I still have the same problem.

- I did what Gigo suggested but I still cannot resolve it. Could it be a registry problem?

Nov 06, 2009

- The printer prints but it hangs at 99% and will not move until you press cancel to cancel the job. When you turn the computer again, it prints on its on the same pages again and hangs at 99%. What other drivers need updating?

Nov 07, 2009

- Which Ashampoo package do you recommend for repairing the registry? Ashampoo HDD control?
I have more than 40% free space on the HD.

Nov 07, 2009

- Hello Guru,

I sent you a question regarding which package of Ashampoo to use for cleaning the registry.

Nov 07, 2009

- Yes, the computer on which it worked is using exactly the same version of SP3. What I have noticed that is that when I unintsall, some files still remain. I have now accessed these files and deleted all of them. I have cleaned the registry and defragmented the hard disk. So I will now try again and will write to you about my progress.

Nov 07, 2009

- I have just tried again but I am still getting the same result.

Nov 08, 2009

- I have tried your suggestions but still no solution. I have looked at the other computer and did exactly the same but it did not help. I think there is probably a junk file on the computer that is stopping. Is there any other way of eliminating this file without reinstalling fresh windows xp?

- When you say delete the application, do you mean the registry or the lexmark driver?

Nov 09, 2009

- I have solved the problem using a completely different solution. I installed dri ver cure and scanned the computer. It did it. completely updated the driver and is now working fine.

Check that you have sufficient disk space available on the PC The rule of thumb is that the HD should have at least 10 - 20% space left to operate efficiently.

Delete the printer driver from the PC. It is a good idea to scan the whole system for viruses, malware and spyware as these can slow down performance significantly. Next scan the system for un necessary drivers and applications etc. You can do this by using a free 30 day evaluation of Ashampoo from www.ashampoo.de that will check out the whole system and assist in removing all the unwanted junk from the registry and hard drive(s). I have been using this software for many years with great success in my workshop in improving system performance. Also then do a full HD defragment - also available in the Ashampoo tool. Then shutdown and restart the PC. Downloadt the latest printer driver from Lexmark support at the following link.

XP / Win 2000 / Win 2003
http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=downloadFile&actp=CONTENT&productCode=LEXMARK_X1270&id=DR15827&segment=DOWNLOAD&userlocale=EN_UK&locale=en

Vista 32 bit
http://support.lexmark.com/index?page=downloadFile&actp=CONTENT&productCode=LEXMARK_X1270&id=DR15494&segment=DOWNLOAD&userlocale=EN_UK&locale=en

Reinstall the print driver. Then shutdown and restart the PC and all should be OK.

Just to clarify. You have uninstalled the printer and then reinstalled the latest drivers? Also have you tried totally reformatting the computer? just changing service packs may not be enough. Also make sure all the other drivers for your computer are up to date. Does the printer print at all or does it go to 99% and not print?
Thanks,
lee

- Actually you did kind of use my solution. As I said definitely was a driver issue. All that program does is get you the latest driver so there must have been some mis-communication or something else. I am glad to see you got the problem solved.
Have a great day and thanks for using fixya,
Lee

Hi.
please do the following.

  • Go to control panel>>Printers, and remove the printer from the list. Choose to remove drivers if asked.
  • Unplug printer USB cable.
  • Download updated drivers here: Driver for Microsoft Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003.
  • Connect the printer only when prompted by driver setup program.

Let me know how it goes

Change the printer spool settings in Control Panel > Printers > Lexmark > Properties > Advanced, disabling the spooler or setting "Use Spooler / Start printing when job finishes".

Also, it could be a problem with the print processor. Same page, choose "Print Processor" for WinPrint and set it to "raw".

Better yet, check which settings are configured on the other computer :-)

If you tested the printer on another computer, is that computer using the same version of Windows (SP3 included)?
When you uninstall the printer, do you actually remove all the printer files from the computer? I would do that. Sometimes a reinstall leaves old files in place.
Are you using the same printer cable on both computers?

it is still reading SP2 and that is the job of the registery that keep old setups and new one, you may tried too many times that it is building new with old...you need to clean the registery. download a free software that I use http://www.ccleaner.com/ but first delete the application and shut down the system then start ccleaner and it will clean the system totally and remmber to keep copy of the old registry (it will ask you if you need it or not) and install a clean application and see how it works, and let me know
