Question about Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2) Console
See if you can play an Audio CD. if you cannot then your Laser CD reading circuit is out of adjustment. Clean the lens and try and if that doesnt work, Add refridgerator magnet to the white clamp that hold the Disc on the Drive spindle. Use a Maghifying glas to get a close look at your Laser lens, and clean off any lint or smudges.

This is a common problem with the PS2 - the laser head is out of alignment.
This is not a problem that a novice should try to fix. In most cases I your best solution is to take the PS2 to a local repair shop - many TV repair shops also repair PS2's, and this is a very common problem that they will be aware of and familiar with.
The upside of taking it to the repair shop is that they will give a limited warranty on the repair so that if the problem pops up again (that happens often too) you can take it back and have them fix it again for free. The downside is that many shops charge you more to repair this than it would cost to purchase a used and working unit on EBay...
If you feel confident in your ability to do the repair yourself, please consult this website for step by step instructions:
The instructions on this site are excellent - I have used this tutorial myself to correct this problem on PS2's. One small point that I want to add - you will be adjusting the height of a laser. Do NOT look into the laser with it turned on! Be sure to place the laser cover back in its slot prior to turning the unit on to test it.

This usually happens when the lens eye is dirty, to clean use a Q-tip with some rubbing alcohol on it. the disk tray should be cleaned also. use the other end of the Q-tip to dry the access rubbing alcohol. Also you can use compressed air in a can to blow dirt and dust out. Hope this solution help your problem.
