Nothing on internal or external screen. Removing battery doesn't help.

Pushing power button does not turn off but holding it continuously recycles on/off but still nothing to internal or external screen...

    System won't start.....

Has only one memory chip, a 512meg chip...could it be bad?

I have just had the same problem with my M40: for a couple of weeks Windows wouldn't switch off and had to push the power button or even remove the battery and disconnect the power cord to switch it off.
Then all of a sudden it went dead and there is no power, all the leds are off.

I tried to remove the battery and and use only the power adapter but still dead. The power adapter is working because, when connected, it slightly warms up.

I have been told by support that it probably is the motherboard which would cost at least €300 to be fixed. If I have to spend that sum to fix a nearly 3-year-old laptop, I might as well spend twice as much and get a brand new one!

Could there be any other reason? Is there way way I can figure out myself what the actual problem is?

I have a M40X toshiba, sometimes on start up,just after the toshiba logo, the screen goes very dim, I can see icons if you hold a strong light at an angle, it is an intermittent problem, I have replaced the inverter but made no difference, checked wiring and moved/shaken but screen will not come on when dim and will not go dim if the screen is normal-bright, so does not seem like a lose connection, has any one go an suggestions?

Same problem here, battery or no battery, lights on front of laptop light up when plugged in but when turning it on, the blue power turn on light just comes on with the fan and disk drive for approx. 3 secs then it shuts off again. Any suggestions?

might sound silly, but have you turnd on the power switch for the pc if it has one,and the one on your power supply,
if you have check the fuse in the power supply,or check the fuse in your main power lead.

Laptop no power, power cord lights up

You should try unplugging the laptop from the power and taking out the battery. Then after about 30 seconds plug the battery back in and attempt to turn the computer back on.

Toshiba satellite m40 booting problem.

Hi! It appears that possibly your hrad drive isn't set properly in the caddy? with the laptop powered down and disconnected locate the hard drive cover pop out the two locating screws and carefully move the caddy/hard drive BEWARE as the drive has fragile pins at the opposite end where you opened, hopefully little sliding pressure should remove. Check the retaining screws around the caddy (You'll need a small torx/philips screw driver for this) if all tight replace gently.
If you are uncertain I would recommend a technician check it for you.
Good Luck!
