Question about Canon Optura 20 Mini DV Digital Camcorder
When I insert the firewire cable, the "DV IN" message on the LCD screen blinks. When the "DV IN" message on the LCD screen is steady the film transfers. When the "DV IN" message blinks, film does not transfer. I bought a new cable, but the message still blinks and film still does not transfer.
If change the setting of the 605 to "hard disk" then a PC sees the 605 as a hard disc when connected using the usb lead. You can then copy and paste files directly to the 605..

Best Buy has a 6 pin to 4 pin firewire cable. You will need some software as well to copy to the hard drive such as Pinnacle Studio if you don't have on already.
Once the cable is plugged in and turned on Studio will detect the camera and run the program.

make sure you are using 4 pin to 4pin firewire which looks like this:
Switch on the Cam.
Open Windows Movie Maker and import video from device.

SOURCE: My computer has no firewire port
Unfortunately USB and Firewire use two completely different protocols for handling the data transfer, so it is not possible to just buy an adaptor that will change one to the other.
You can however buy fairly cheap plug in Firewire cards that will fit a notebook, providing you have an expansion socket (PCMCIA, CardBus, ExpressCard). Just try Googling '"Firewire for notebook"
Hope this helps!
