AIO 922 Cover Open

I just installed new ink cartridges in my printer (which I've had for 2 years and never had any problems with) and now it says "Cover Open" and none of the buttons work. I have to unplug the printer to turn it off. Please Help

its almost an inch long, black smooth with some indentation at one tip and a slight curve at the other end...I looked inside my printer, where you mentioned but I don't see where it could have come from...I can take a picture of the piece if that would help

oh my gawd its fixed! thank you!!!....turns out that piece was the key that gets pressed when the top closes!! it snapped right on!! i'm guessing the hole you mentioned was the one i needed to look at...by five quarters, did you mean side by side or laying flat? I get it now :P once again, thank you bbtoast! you solved it and it only took less than a few hours.

    Alrighty, hopefully I can help!

First, you've identified the same piece that I took that picture of. Now you need to find the opening (5 quarters). I completely took my printer apart for this (while open, taking out the screws located on the perimiter of the printer, pop off the plate that covers the printer) If you look at the picture of my printer while open, you'll notice two white strips on the right side, to the left of those strips (while facing it) you will see a little triangular piece that juts down...your broken piece is what gets hit when that triangular piece goes down, I hope I'm making sense.

You need to have a small flashlight to be able to see where this piece fits...It pops right back on, assuming it looks exactly like the one I photographed. Hopefully this helps, but be very careful when taking your printer apart, you don't want those white strips coming loose, your best bet is to have someone help you take it apart and hold the top half of the printer when you are trying to locate the area where the piece fits.

bbtoast, this is good news that a solution is possible! I have the exact same problem with my Dell AIO ("cover open"). I heard a rattle when I shook the printer and the same little black piece fell out. I have removed the cover and found a hole the size of 5 quarters but cannot figure out how to insert the small piece. Can you describe in a little more detail?

Some how, the sensor that reads when the cover is closed is not reacting like it should.

I assume that you have pulled the cover back up and then back down several times? The status then still indicates that th "cover open" and does not change?

We need to figure out why your sensor is not reading correct. It is located on the right rear when looking with the cover open.

What does the piece look like...color material, etc.

  • Brian Berndt
    Brian Berndt Jan 05, 2008

That does not look like the piece that "makes" the sensor react, but it could be part of the "receiver end" of the sensor. I am afraid that you will have to take this unit apart (if you are so capable) or have it serviced.

Pull the top up as in changing the ink.

TURN OFF / UNPLUG THE POWER SUPPLY FIRST!

There are two hinge stops that only allow the top up so far. The left one pops inward to the middle, and the right one pops toward the outside.

Look to the right side. (The right when the ink is towards the bottom).

There is a hole the size of 5 quarters where the sensor in question is.

See what is in the hole.

Blurry Print - Dell 922 AIO

Sounds like a new cartridge is in order. I would buy an OEM cartridge as the first one just to make sure that it's not something else wrong. Also, run the deep cleaning for the heads to clear the nozzles.
After market inks sometimes are not up to specs. You might try LDproducts.com. I've had excellent results with their inks.Let me know is the problem goes away. Thanks.

I have a Lexmark P4350, I put a new 33 color ink cartidge in and it does not reconize it and has an Error 1102

The 1102 error message is caused by a communication failure between one of the printheads (cartridges) and the All-In-One (AIO).
The procedures in this article will help you to resolve this issue.
Troubleshooting a Communication Error between the Cartridge and the Printer
Please follow the steps given below:
Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Wait 30 seconds, then reinsert the power supply and power the AIO back on.
Did the error message return?
Yes: Continue to step 2.
No: Print a test page. If the test page prints, the error is resolved.

2 Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Open the top cover of the AIO. Using the carrier belt, gently move the cartridge carrier to the middle of the unit.
3 Remove both cartridges from the AIO. Close the top cover, reinsert the power supply, and power the AIO on.

Hi, Even though I have replaced the black cartridge, I continue to get the message that the ink is empty. I would love some guidance!!!!

Hi snascent,

It's possible that you may also need to replace the color ink cartridge. If this is not the case, then the message you're receiving could be due to any of a number of factors:

1) Make sure that you've removed the sticker and transparent tape from the new cartridge before installing it.
2) Make sure that the new cartridge is snapped in securely, and that the lid over it is snapped close.
3) Make sure that the black cartridge is on the left and the color one is on the right (silly as this may seem, it can actually cause problems).
4) If all of these are done and you still get the same message, you might try powering off and back on.
5) If it still doesn't recognize the ink, you might have a clogged print nozzle. To clean the print nozzles, click Start Menu > Programs > Dell Printers > Dell Photo AIO Printer 922 > Dell Printer Solution Center. On the "Maintenance" tab, click "Clean to fix horizontal streaks" - then click "Print."

I hope this helps you - please let me know if you still have problems, or if I can be of any other assistance.

Kind regards,
H2H

Hardware error:0502

1. Ink cartridges lids are open which is not allowing cartridges to move freely.
2. Ink cartridges carriage will not move from its original position(left) when front cover is opened
3. Encoder strip is Dirty.
4. Encoder strip is Out of position.

Solution:
1. Open the front cover and check if ink cartridges lids are properly snapped in.

2. Turn the printer off and pull out the power cable from power socket, open the front cover and manually center the ink cartridges carriage.
Clean the metallic rod inside the printer using WD40 or Kleenex from Left corner to right corner properly.

3. Cleaning the encoder strip:
a. printer should be off and disconnected from power.
b. open the front cover.
c. Using a dry, lint free cloth, pinch the encoder strip on the right-hand side of the cartridge carriage and pull your fingers across it toward the right-hand side of the printer and you can move the cartridges carriage to clean the strip completely.
d. Note: The encoder strip is a narrow band of clear plastic and can be difficult to see without direct lighting running parallel to metallic rod.
e. Close the printer and try again to print.

4. Repositioning the Encoder strip.
a. Remove the power cord from the printer.
b. Open the front cover.
c. Gently slide the ink cartridge carrier to the middle of the printer.
d. Gently move the top part of the printer belt to the right.
e. Using an index finger, gently push encoder strip down and then back up, to get it back into the slot located on the back of the ink cartridge carrier.
f. Gently press the strip first to the rear, and then forward, to ensure that it is seated correctly.
g. Manually move the ink cartridge carrier to the left, then to the right, to check the positioning of the encoder strip.
h. Once the encoder strip has been re-seated, close the scanner lid.
i. Re-connect the power cord to the printer and try again to print.
