Question about Kenmore 50522 / 50524 Side by Side Refrigerator

No water from dispenser

I have a side by side Kenmore fridge (it actually says model 50522101) that is not dispensing water. It still makes ice. When I open the grill on the bottom, I see water is sitting in the clear tube/water supply. Light still works. When I press on the water dispenser, nothing happens at all.

I have a Kenmore side by side 197D1071P023. We hooked it up to water and it makes Ice fine but the water dispenser does nothing when pushed and the Ice dispenser does nothing when pushed, and the light at the dispenser does not work, Light bulb checks good.

I have the exact same problem. It cannot be frozen water since the same line sources the ice maker which still works. I am wondering if it may be some type of relay. I push the lever to dispense water, but nothing happens. Sometimes I think I hear a slight hum and other times nothing. I hope the "hum" is not in my head. The line that comes from the filter, goes to a square object which has some power wires. Is that a relay? I think that must be the problem.?.?.?

    Any ideas?

I could not locate any white tank where the water comes to/from. There is only a clear plastic water line behind the crisper drawers, that is coiled up and goes up to the water filter at the top on one end, and down through the bottom of the fridge on the other. The coiled line seemed like perhaps it was frozen, so I took a hair dryer to that but it didn't help. I also tried removing the cardboard cover in the bottom back of the fridge, to see if perhaps the white tank was back there, but it was only
more line, which goes towards the front of the fridge, where it goes up into the corner of the door.

Please read this from a different brand, check behind your crisper drawers for a "reservoir", if you have one, this may be the fix!

*****************************************

It is possible that your water reservoir is frozen. This is located usually behind the lower fridge side drawers. There is a white "tank" that has a water line going to and from. The tank is there to provide "cold" water. I have had mine freeze on several occasions, and the easiest fix for me is to remove the crisper drawers, and use a hair dryer to help melt the ice. It can take several minutes, so remove any food that you don't want to get warm!

Remember to be careful with the hair dryer, as it is an electrical device!

I hope that this works for you. The product manual for my GE refrigerator suggests that you call a repairman!

Kenmore refrigerator side by side model 25358682890 cold water dispenser does not work. ice maker works.

Your fridge has a dual solenoid water valve - one side controls the water flow to the dispenser, the other to the ice maker. It's possible that one side burned out while the other is still good.

Here's a photo of what it looks like:

cgaither98_0.jpg

Here's a link to the replacement part:
http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-number/Kenmore-Parts/Refrigerator-Parts/218658000/0046/253/Model-25358682890/0582/0165000?keySuffixId=NA&productTypeId=x&searchModelNumber=25358682890&subCompDesc=Icemaker&brandDesc=KENMORE&modelDesc=Side-by-Side&blt=11

Before replacing the part, make sure the solenoid is in fact, bad. Get a voltmeter, and touch the probes to the electrical contacts on the solenoid, like so:
moz-screenshot-9.pngcgaither98_2.gif
If the meter barely moves, the solenoid is bad.

If both solenoids test out OK, the other possibility is that the water supply line is kinked or clogged. Also, if your water dispenser has a filter (also on the back of the fridge), it might be clogged. My money's on the solenoid, though.

Good luck, and if this helps, please my answer!
Also, thanks to Zenzoidman for the pics.

Water not going into icemaker. Water dispenser works fine.

Check the water valve at the back of the fridge if present.

Even if you used blowdryer, ensure that linse are not frozen by performing a complete defrost.

Disconnect water lines from icemaker, and blow with compressor if the above did not work.

Kenmore Refrigerator stopped dispensing water

Either your water tank in the fridge froze up, the waterline that goes up the freezer door from the bottom hinge froze, or the switch that your glass hits is damaged. Do you hear any humming or noises when you put your glass up to get water?

Ice maker failure

1) Check the filler tube which allows water to enter the dispenser through the back wall of the freezer. This tube may be frozen inside. You can pull the tube out gently and clear it.

2) The inlet valve may be faulty/blocked. Where the water connects to the water valves behind the fridge, try to swap the plugs around from the one valve to the other. They should be colour coded. Then try dispensing water. If water runs into the ice-maker then the ice maker valve is faulty/blocked.
