Our whirlpool duet dryer randomly beeps displaying

Our whirlpool duet dryer randomly beeps displaying the 'CONTROL LOCK' light and will not reset by holding the button. We unplug it and leave it for extended periods and struggle to get it to eventually run. Today it began beeping on it is own (had not been run for a day) and then locked itself. After unplugging and pressing a series of buttons half of the display lights were on. Repeatedly unplugging and resetting finally enabled the machine. What is wrong with this machine?
