Question about Canon PowerShot A40 Digital Camera

OBSCENELY short battery life in PowerShot A40 :-(

Really, really short battery life in my A40, batteries only last long enough for the camera to turn on, take ONE picture and hurriedly turn off saying to change the batteries, mind you this is with BRAND NEW batteries installed minutes before, freshly bought at a store and cross tested with batteries of a different brand bought elsewhere.

It takes 4 AA batteries, you meaning to say I gotta pay double for a pack of the primo AA batteries? This camera ran just fine for years on the cheapo grocery store/minimart grade batteries. Do you even know what camera I am talking about. This isnt some primo $5,000 SLR rig, its a 2nd hand 2MP camera that works great and hasn't disappointed me until now.

    What a sockpuppet you are.

I have the same problem. Camera worked fine for three years. Now all of a sudden, it says to replace batteries within just a few seconds of installing new batteries.

Agree with solution. Alkaline and other battery types can be incompatible with certain digital cameras. Try NiMh rechargeables for best value. Kritichris

You need to use Nimh battery specifically designed for digital
camera use with high ampacity usage.

My batteries dont last long. I put in new batteries and after only maybe one hour of use i get the change battery prompt.

Battery life really depends on a lot of things the amount of use you are giving the LCD screen, the temperature you are using the camera in meaning the colder it is the shorter the battery life, not all batteries are created equal and most "no name" brands are lacking in staying power. Your camera is able to work with rechargeable batteries Ni-MH AA's will last at least three times the length of the Alkaline types. You can buy a set of four rechargeable batteries with their charger fairly inexpensively and will pay for themselves very quickly because you can keep charging them.

Everytime I go to use my camera I have to replace the batteries? I turn the camera off why is this happening?

in most cases the reason for this is a small in board short that drains the batteries. the fault is not worth having fixed as the short could be any were. the only thing you can really do is remove the batteries when then camera is not being used

hope this has helped

Short battery life when idle - Sanyo Xacti VPC-HD2000

Strange, mine lasts a very very very long time, but in a standby state (power on, just close the lcd lid). Have you tried to just keep it in the standby state? I will never turn it off unless I need to, like to change sd cards, because it is super quick to capture video and it does not kill the battery.
I have 2 of these dual cameras and John is quite right, the Sanyo HD2000 is not a "normal" camera, its quite abnormally exceptional and way ahead of its time! Having a f1.8 lens, 1/2.5" cmos, 1080p @ 60 FRAMES/second, really makes it not "Normal". You will need a better computer to process the crazy 1080p/60fps images.

After one flash foto, the orange led will contiuos blinking, and after a while "replace batterie", happens wih new batterie (alkaline) and NIMH 2700 fully charged batterie

Some of The Canon Powershot A530 and A540 cameras are subject to an advisory recall. Seems that a small spring on the battery compartment door can short out the batteries. Suspect this of yours, in that you mention that your batteries aren't lasting long. If your camera is on the list, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info:

The batteries in my canon powershot A460 get used out really fast. Too fast! I tried using rechargable and unrechargable batteries, bought a whole bunch by now and allways the same problem. I know a bit...

Hi,
That is a possibility but in most cases the camera's are just very very greedy and eat the power like a starving dog.
The best way around this problem that i have found (my camera does the same) is to purchase plenty of batteries, preferably Duracell Alkaline as they seem to last, also refrain from using the flash when you don't need it as the flash really does eat the batteries, this will conserve power and you'll get a little more life from them.

Regards.

My Canon sd 1000 won't power on. Battery is OK.

Check to make sure the batteries you are using have enough strength and volt power, if not it wont work. If they are really cheap, and last only a weak in the remote, they wont power up a camera.
