Re: GE Electric Dryer

That is one thing I have learned, don't take anything apart that you dont need apart. Clean with shop vac-it will suck it out.

How do I clean lint from inside GE Harmony Profile Dryer?

You have to remove the panel. The assume the lint filter works better then they usually do and do not make it easy to open up and clean inside. You may have to open it from the back side which does open up to allow repairs, etc.

My dryer is smoking and making a noise

This is not good and should be disconnected from power source until problem resolved. It sounds like an accumulation of lint in the dryer base, where motor / belt compartment are located. Vacuuming all the lint from inside the cabinet will reduce the risk of a lint fire. Cleaning the exhaust / vent hose all the way through to the outside of building will allow better air flow. I have used a leaf blower to do this. Disconnect the dryer hose from the back of the dryer, and insert the leaf blower nozzle. Secure hose to leaf blower nozzle as best you can so it is air tight. Switch on the leaf blower for half a minute or so. Any accumulated lint in the dryer vent line will be discharged to the outside of building. Reconnect dryer hose to dryer and test to see if clothes are now drying faster.

Clothes get caught

Remove the lint screen from the GE electric clothes dryer.

Roll the lint from the screen with your hand. If the lint screen is clogged with fabric softener, fill a sink with hot water and add 1 to 2 tsp. dish soap.

Scrub the lint screen with a soft-bristle brush and soapy water. Rinse the lint screen thoroughly and shake off any excess water. Set the lint screen aside to air dry while you clean the dryer exterior.

Dampen a cloth with warm water and wring it out. Wipe over the GE electric dryer exterior to remove any lint, dust or product residue. If the dryer is very dirty, dip the cloth in the soapy water and wipe away any spots.

Wipe the GE clothes dryer with a towel to dry. Replace the lint screen when it's completely dry.

Dryer has started to take longer to dry clothes only 3 yrs old, any reason why this could be happening. A load used to dry in roughly 30 minutes now can take up to an hour.

I would check your venting. If your venting is plugged up it will not be able to expel moisture properly causing long dry times. Feel the airflow outside if its not strong then thats your problem. Good luck.

Water is running out from beneath the dryer

If you have water leaking from a dryer, then you have a clog in your exhaust ventilation ducting somewhere. If the lint is allowed to accumulate to the point of clogging, the warm moist air condensates inside the dryer and ventilation causing more lint to accumulate due to the moisture. This condition will only get worse and needs to be remedied as soon as possible. Water inside a dryer is a hazard due to the electric components located in the bottom of the unit. This is where your drive motor and heating circuits are located.

I would strongly recommend you try this quick test. Unplug the unit and remove the exhaust vent hose from the back of the dryer and try drying a load as you normally would. If the air flow leaving the exhaust is forceful and warm, then the problem isn't inside the dryer. The problem is with the vent ducting AFTER the dryer. You will need to inspect for kinks or clogs in the hose from the point where it leaves the dryer, all the way to where it exits your home. If the ducting hasn't been cleaned in a while, now might be a good time to do so. Leaving a dryer in a clogged state will eventually cause it to overheat to the point of failure. Not to mention, this creates a fire hazard and a habitat for rodents. Mice love dryer lint.

If the air flow leaving the dryer is weak and cool, you may have an internal clog inside the dryer. Inspect the air blower assembly for clogs or obstructions and clean as necessary. Cleaning the lint screens on dryers isn't always enough. Some lint does get past the screen and can accumulate over time. Periodic inspection and cleaning is recommended. I check mine about every three months.

Always remember to unplug the dryer before servicing the inside of the unit. If you have questions along the way, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

GE Harmony electric dryer model DPGT750EC1PL- very little heat - small rattle - takes hours to dry load of laundry... any ideas?

Check the following to address this issue.

Note: Normal drying time for a dryer is about 45 minutes (some may take up to an hour).

1. Venting
Make sure the dryer vent hose, as well as the rest of the vent duct, is not clogged.

Unless regular maintenance is performed, chances are there is a lot of lint accumulated inside the dryer. This might affect the drying time and could be a fire hazard. Make sure to have your dryer cleaned regularly. Because this might involve taking most of the dryer apart, it is recommended to have a qualified appliance repairman perform this task.

2. Thermostat
There are a couple of cycling thermostats inside the dryer. If one of them breaks down, it might affect the dryer's performance. Replace the defective thermostat.

3. Heating element
A heating element might only be partially burned out, in which case it would still work but will take longer time to dry the clothes. Replace the element if found defective.
