Problem for Apple iPhone 3G

I have a new 16G iPhone - online proplem

I have a new 16G iPhone.

1. I am out of the UK so have data roaming turned off.
2. I am at a friends house and successfully loged on to his his high speed internet.
3. I can get Safari to connect to web ok.
4. I can get my emails to come in.

The problem.

1. I can not send out e-mails -- it says not on line
2. I have skype -- when I try to make a call it says on line

No, I did not fix the problem, but you signed up with fixYa, because you advertised FREE help solutions -- but I cannot see where any thing free is.
Maybe I need my eyeglasses fixed as well -- or can you tell where the link / tab / drop-down/ free help is located.
