If you boot to safe mode, the operating system will load the default vga driver, see if it works in safe mode if it does then check the driver that the monitor is assigned. when you boot to safe mode make sure you use the safemode with networking so you,ll have access to the web to download. go to system properties page then advanced settings/device manager you can view the driver version of the monitor / display adapter and update the drivers or rollback the driver. try running device managers driver update wizard to automatically fix this

Now my screen says gateway very dim and goes black

The screen on your laptop computer is the primary graphical interface that allows you to interact with your Gateway laptop computer. The screen is connected to your computer through video cables located within the base of the laptop. If your laptop will boot up but the screen remains black, it is likely the video or power cable on your Gateway laptop has somehow become disconnected. Reconnecting laptop hardware is a very difficult operation and is not recommended for anyone that is not familiar with computer hardware.

Remove the faceplate of your old laptop by removing the plastic hinges located on the sides of the base. The hinges can usually be removed with your fingers. Open the latches that secure the keyboard to your laptop. Some laptops use screws to secure the keyboard; remove these if necessary and unplug the connector. If you are having trouble finding the screws on your laptop, they are normally located near the corners. Unscrew the screws that connect your laptop screen to its base. The screws will be located near the bottom of the screen's base. Reconnect the video cable and power cord that connect your screen to your laptop and make sure they are firmly connected. Reassemble your laptop to complete the operation.

My acer aspire one notebook laptop when I push the power button comes on and shows the start up screen and then the screen instantly goes to this black screen with a little white line blinking in the top...

Perhaps you've built a computer and are turning it on for the first time, or you've owned this computer for awhile. Either way, you may encounter an issue where the monitor shows a black screen and the computer is beeping. There are several causes and solutions for this problem.

1.Refer to your motherboard manual, since the motherboard is the beeping device. These beeps are like Morse code, and each "beep code" is explained in the manual. Common beep codes include not having a monitor or keyboard properly connected; not having a CPU fan connected, or not attaching internal power cables to the video card. This black-screen-and-beeping issue is most common with newly-assembled computers.
2.Check external cables to make sure they're properly connected. The most important external connections to check are the monitor's signal cable and the keyboard. If your monitor cable looks damaged or kinked, try replacing it with a spare. If your keyboard's cable looks frayed, try a spare keyboard.

Also, a PS/2 keyboard plug (round, with holes in it, about the diameter of a finger) is often color-coded purple. If you have plugged it into the green port in the back of the computer (for PS/2 mice) switch it to the other one. If there is no color coding, the proper port should have a small, embossed icon of a keyboard on the back of the computer. If it does not, refer to your motherboard manual for the correct port. If all else fails, try a spare keyboard, preferably USB (Universal Serial Bus), which can be plugged into any USB port on the back of the computer.
3.Check for additional motherboard power connections. Yours may require multiple cables attached from the power supply. There is the standard wide plug, which you know is connected properly because your motherboard is beeping. However, there may also be an additional, four-pin cable that connects elsewhere on the motherboard. Check the board's manual to make sure it has all the power connections it needs.
4.Check your internal cables. Make sure that the CPU fan is plugged into the motherboard header nearby. Without that, the CPU fan will not spin, and the motherboard may detect this lack of connection and produce a beep code. Your video card also may have one or two internal power plugs that need to be attached to the power supply's cables. These cables have unique ends on them, similar in shape to a USB plug. Refer to the case or video card documentation if need be. If those cables are not attached, your motherboard may refuse to boot the system.

Your video card may be faulty. If this is a new card, it may have arrived to you broken, in which case you will probably need to request an RMA (Return to Manufacturer Authorization) to receive a replacement. If this card was previously working for you in this system, you can contact its manufacturer yourself to receive a replacement, if the device is still under warranty.

I hope you find it very helpful.

Acer Travelmate 230 laptop starts up shows the Acer screen then gets to the windows loading screen after that the screen goes black and does nothing else. what can i do?

What operating system do you have?

What happened prior to the issue? Did you do an update/ installed a new software in your computer?
Try to boot to safemode:
1. Turn your computer on and tap on F8 before the splash screen appears. 2. You will get a black screen that says Advanced Boot Options. Choose Safe Mode with Networking. 3. If the issue does not reoccur there, the problem might be related to the video card driver. Uninstall the video card driver:
a. Click start, right click on My Computer. Choose properties b. Go to Advanced tab and click on device manager. c. click on the plus sign beside display adapter. d. right click on the video card driver found there and uninstall. It will prompt you is you are sure you want to delete it. Click yes. e. Then restart your computer. Boot to normal mode (just let it boot and do not press anything as you boot the computer)

The issue should not be present in Normal Mode but your screen resolution will be very different (bigger). Download the correct driver for your computer from the links posted below:
video driver 1 or video driver 2

Gateway MX3416 will not boot. LED light indicating that there is a battery is still on. Screen is black but the CD-ROM drive seems operational. Removing RAM and replacing did not help.

Does the Gateway appear to boot up but you do not get an image on the screen?
Does the power LED light up and does the hard disk LED flash as the Gateway boots up?
If so then the Gateway could have a back-light problem or the video card may be faulty.
To determine the exact fault, please click on this link and follow my instructions to determine the fault an possible fix :-

Okay, so I had a customer come in with this laptop and said that the screen wouldn't turn on. So I fiddled with the screen for a while and eventually it came on. 3 days later it goes black again, I...

When the LCD is black and you can see a dim image on the screen then it is a black light problem. could be a faulty inverter but mosr likely a burnt out/worn out CCFL lamp. By connecting and external monitor to the video port, you can determine weather the video card is OK.
If you don't get an image on an external monitor then the video card is faulty and it is impossible to repair except by replacing the motherboard.
