Outlook express shows error 0x800c0133 when receiving mail

I had a similar problem. I also got the same error message every time I opened Outlook Express. I called Time Warner about fixing it but they were of no help. They told me to call Microsoft since it is a Windows program. Calling Microsoft is like calling the White House and wanting to talk to the president. Plus my op system (XP Pro) plus my Microsoft Office 2003 program are not 100% legal, if you know what I mean. So Microsoft would be of no help either.

I had a crammed Inbox with 800+ messages, many with large attachments. I could not delete messages, receive mail, move messages to another folder, or do anything to or with the contents of the Inbox.

If you can create a new folder and move mail messages that you may want to keep to a new folder, great! But I could not.

The fix went like this:

1- Open Outlook Express

2- Left click Tools, then Options (at the bottom of the Tools drop down menu), then left- click the "Maintenance" tab at the top of the page.

3- That opens a page with a "Store Folder" button near the bottom right.

4-Left-click the "Store Folder " button. That opens a page showing the location of folders in Outlook Express such as your Inbox.

5-Highlite that bar showing the location (The bar starts out with C:\Documents and Settings\ME\ Local settings\etc.) On your keyboard push "Ctrl C", copying the contents of the bar that you just highlighted and putting it in "Notepad". Close completely out of Outlook Express.

6-Click "Start" and then click "Run". In the bar that opens put your cursor there and on your keyboard push "Ctrl V" which will put the contents of what you just copied in the previous step in the box. Click "Okay". This will open a list of files ona page with file extesions such as ".dbx" after them.

7-Delete "Inbox.dbx". Also delete "Deleted Items.dbx". This will delete the contents of your Inbox and Deleted Items as well as the folders themselves. All of your old mail will be gone. But you didn't need it anyway, right?

8- Close this page.

9-Re-open Outlook Express. You will have a new Inbox and a new Delighted Items folder, but they will be empty. Outlook Express, by default, will have created a new Inbox and Delighted Items folder for you, folders that is not corrupted like the last one, but empty, ready to receive mail.

Dear fando,

This is usually down to a corrupt or over-full email inbox. Outlook Express is not very good at holding large amounts of emails especially if they have large attachments. I had a user this morning with a 2.5 GB inbox.

Backup/rename Inbox (C:\Documents and Settings\(User)\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{GIU}\Microsoft\Outlook Express\inbox.dbx -> inboxbak.dbx).
Close Outlook Express.
Open Outlook Express.
Outlook Express will have created a whole new Inbox.
Your email should now work.

Best wishes.

Not receiving or sending at start in outlook express

To fix this issue you can follow the
below mentioned workaround :

- Check your Internet and Outlook
Express account settings and double check that you have entered the
correct password and user name.

- Check your Firewall and Anti-virus
settings as sometimes this blocks the sending and receiving of
messages.

- Check if there is a corrupt
message stuck in your Outbox.

- A corrupt Outlook express dbx file
may also cause this issue so it is required to go for solution.

Contact your Internet Service Provider.
Ask them for the name of the "outgoing-SMTP-server", and for instructions on how to configure Outlook Express to insert that value.

Also, if this does not help, try as a last resort use a special software.
If not important, paid or free software, I can advise this Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express: http://www.outlookexpress.recoverytoolbox.com/

Outlook express

hi,

Error 0x800c0133 when you are retrieving email with your Outlook Express (OE) is because of currupted Inbox file.
To remedy please follow these steps:
  1. Open OE, on the left pane, right click "Local Folders", select "New Folder...", specify a name for your new folder as "Temp".
  2. If you are still able to access "Inbox", move all mails in "Inbox" to the new "Temp" folder.
  3. Go to menu "Tools" -> "Options" -> "Maintenance" tab -> "Store Folder" button. It will show the location of your Inbox file, please remember this location.
  4. Close OE, go to the location mentioned above, delete the file "inbox.dbx".
  5. Restart OE, the "Inbox" folder should be auto recreated. Move back your mails to the new "Inbox", remove the "Temp" folder.
or

Another solution
Error Number:0x800c0133

Error Number: 0x800C0133 = a corrupt Inbox.

Move any mail you wish to save to a local folder you create. Then:

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of
your Outlook Express files. Press the Tab key to highlight the folder
location, then Ctrl+C. Close OE, then Start | Run | Ctrl+V will put the
location in the box - Click OK and you'll see the OE files. Otherwise, write
the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options |
View.

With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Inbox.dbx} and
delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE.

General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become
corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your
mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created
folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible.

After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while
working *offline* and do it often.

Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are
open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the
Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until
the compacting is completed.

Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer
of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as
time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will
continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and
leave it unchecked.

Outlook express problems

Check your recycle bin. There may be in your files. They will have the extension .bak In that case, you have a file size is exceeded, or an error occurred. Then you will need to resort to specialized software. Many recommend this program: http://www.outlookexpress.recoverytoolbox.com/
I myself have not tried Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express, but people say it always helps.
But I would advise you to read here about the problem: http://www.filerepairforum.com/forum/microsoft/microsoft-aa/outlook-express/395-something-wrong-with-outlook-express-how-to-fix-it

I hope my answer will help you. Good luck!
