This could be a spooler problem. From the Control Panel select Printers, and in the HP's properties go to Advanced, check Use Spooler and see what works better between "Begin print immediately" and "Start printing when job is complete" (the actual text might be slightly different).

It could happen that the best setting is not the same between "text only" pages and "color and photo" pages, though. What you choose will then depend on what kind of use you make of the printer.
