Macintosh HD will open from desktop icon but won't stay open. I can access all but applications files using finder but Macintosh HD closes when I click on applications.
I recently transferred files from my G4 eMac and in error to the Intel iMac applications folder via an external HDD and a USB flash drive.
Also recently I upgraded to OS 10.4.11 and upgraded all the iLife software.
How do I get access to the HDD to remove the in error file?

- G'day all and raptordrew,
thank you for all suggestions. Each had some benefit for me with the problem, but none fully solved the problem.
The solution,in the end, was dead easy.
I upgraded the eMac to the same OSX level as the iMac, set the iMac in target mode connected it to the eMac and used it to remove all the earlier app. folders, that may have been causing the problem, restarted iMac and all the problems were fixed.
Upgrading the OS system in the eMac proved to be very beneficial.
Once again, thank you all for your help. Chris
Sounds like you may have some permissions issues - I would suggest sticking in the OS disc that came with your iMac, restarting, and holding the "C" key when you hear the chime - this will make it boot off the CD. Once booted from it, go to Tools->Disk Utility, choose your disk, and do "Repair Permissions". Once that is done, you can quit the installer and restart. If that doesn't work, the next step I would recommend is running DiskWarrior, which is $99 - this is like an industrial permissions/hard drive directory repair disc, used by many professionals. If that doesn't solve it, you will likely have to back up your user data and do a fresh install of the OS from the discs you have. Good luck!

my new packard bell imedia S1710 keeps popping up a message saying not enough memory even when doing simple copy/paste action in word. On checking the memory usage it sits at 50% at rest - is this normal for Windows 7 64 bit operating system?
