It depends upon the model that you have ... can you give us the model number too ... WR ... something

Yes you need a modem in your computer to get it connected. Visit www.belarc.com and download the system analyser. It will tell if you have suitable modem or not. Since your machine likely have a modem, bit it's suitability . Since you will need a 1000/and up to connect at that speed.
