Re: Help

Hi vrytrigg
If you still have the old RAM inserted, try removing it and see if the new one works on its own. If it does then your RAM are incompatible with each other as they may be running at different clock speeds although they will both be compatible with your system. should you manage to re-boot the PC, there are a few sites online that can scan your system to let you know what type of RAM you should buy.
Hope this helps!

Your motherboard is limited by it's 400 fsb. The fastest CPU that will work in it is a 2.8Ghz 400fsb northwood chip. You can upgrade the memory to 1GB of pc2100 ddr ram. As for changing out the motherboard, don't do it. The front panel connections will likely never correct correctly with a new motherboard.

Exactly what are you trying to do? Are you talking about the Bios or System Setup? if so just reboot your computer and watch the screen for which key it says to hit to get into the Bios or System Setup. You have to hit the key when you see the message or it will not work and you will have to start again.

If you are talking about the CMOS battery that is on the motherboard: Remove the power cord, Remove the case, turn the computer on it's side and look inside for a shiny nickle size battery and use a small flat head screw driver to pop it out. The most common size is CR2032 and you can purchase it anywhere for $5 or so.

YES. The slots are for different kinds of memory. ONLY use the 2 new cards and insert them into the SAME colour slots. You should NOT mix memory types. Forget the old modules.

Installed new ram-computer boots up ok then freezed once it finishes booting up. I have (2) 256 & (1) 238 rams installed. Tried to install another 256 that would have maxed it out with (3) 256. ...

You can only use paired ram modules. for example.. 2X 256mb, 2X 512, if your computer has four slots you can use 4X 256mb or 4X 512MB..

HP Pavillion a805n won't power up

what is your household Current? that voltage setting will not work in the United States since household current is 120. The switch in the US should be set for 120 volts AC. If you out the old ram back in place will the computer power up? If yes then you may have exceeded the capacity of the computer. You also need to check the the BIOS settings to make sure that the computer detected the new ram.

Can't find slots to upgrade RAM

here is HPs' complete instructions (with pictures) on how to upgrade your ram--
keep in mind that if your computer only has two slots and they are already used by your 256MB , that you will have to replace these with larger capacity ram chips.

Memory upgrade problems

Hmm if the pc takes DDR Ram , it should deffently take 512 sticks, have u tried booting the computer with just the one 512 stick ? or try putting the 256 stick in and 1 x 512 stick , test it that way with both sticks , some older computers there is a bios setting for upgrading to higher amount of memory, but in your case with DDR ram i dont think so , i mean it may be worth a shot going into bio's and load optimized defaults , press f10 to save settings, try one stick at a time after that , if still no go , there is a jumper pin on the mother board that u can move over a slot which will restet the bios, if u dont know this jumper pin or where it is, just remove the round battery on the motherboard for 30 seconds , then put it back in , try your new ram then , u will be asked to save settings on boot up , if it still dosent work the ram is either faulty or incompatible, alot of the time with Dell , HP /Compaq desktops there fussy with the type of ram they take, but if u ordered from dell it should have worked !! whats the brand name of the ram u have is it hynix? /HP this brand of ram has alot of issues with compatibility,
