Question about Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Unidentified Images. I bought the Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Camera a while ago, and all of a sudden, when I take pictures, and I view them, most of the time it says "Unidentified Image".  I got advice to plug it into the computer, and it made a lot of the pictures unidentified too. Help?

I have the same problem. It doesn't always happen, more often with video, sort of arbitrary.

Exactly same problem. First I was getting "Unidentified Image" once in a while. No every single one is Unidentified. I'm using 4 GB SanDisk SD card. I have a feeling it's the card compatibility issue. I put in included 32MB Canon SD card and camera takes pictures OK. I'm going to buy another (non SanDisk) SD card and try it...

I am having the same problem and I use 3 different kinds of memory cards with the camera, scandisk, kodak, and kingston, when I first got the camera I could view all the pictures on the computer but now about only half. I can view them fine on the camera though.

I would try formating the card using the camera (menu - setup - format) - THIS WILL ERASE ALL THE PICTURES YOU CURRENTLY HAVE ON YOUR CARD, so before you do this you may want to get a memory card reader and transfer the pictures (click and drag) to your computer. As to using the 4GB will have to check with canon if a card that size if compatable. Not all cameras work with SD cards larger than 2GB.

My Canon Powershot sd1000 is locked up. It turns on but will not take pics and I cannot view images. It is locked on one picture.

Check the lock switch on the side of the memory card. That is usually what causes the situation you are describing. It may have moved to the locked position accidently

My Cannon Powershot SD1000 LCD screen does not work. It will take pictures but will not let me change options, view the menu, or view images- past or present. Pressing the DISP button does nothing.

Has the screen been cracked/damaged? Was your camera dropped in any liquid? It's worth it to try having the LCD screen replaced, as it's quite affordable. If there is liquid damage near the LCD input inside the camera that would be another issue that would be solved by replacing those main boards.

In an ideal situation it would be just that the backlight cable wiggled itself out of its input (I'm assuming the screen doesn't light up anymore), which is something you could look at yourself if you're comfortable taking your camera apart. I wish you luck =)

I have a cannon sd1000 , bought 1 month back. suddenly its stopped capturing pictures. i.e while in shot mode the display is black and not showing and capturing the image.but able to access al the menus....

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open).

To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Unidentified images

You think you can try photo recovery software to see if you can rescue the lost photos or movies, here are some you may rely on. Both programs can also recover videos and music.

Photo Recovery Software (for Windows)
Mac Photo Recovery Software (for Mac OS X)

Be careful: Before your pictures and videos are recovered, do not attempt to save more files to the memory card in case the original files(your pictures) are overwritten.

Unidentified images

I have the same problem with my Canon Powershot SX110IS. images dissapear with the notation "unidentified image". I brought my camera in to a local camera shop, and they were able to save the lost images. They told me I had an inexpensive, low quality memory card that is causing this problem. I upgraded to a high quality one and haven't had the problem since.
