If everything you tried failed, it is the laser controller, a rectangular IC located next to where the power ribbon connects to the mobo. This can be replaced with a bit of skill and can be purchased loose. Since this is an EEPROM, you can first try to re-program it with a utility named LENSEGHANGE.ELF. If you replace the IC, just check that you reolace it with the same year model, i.e. 2004 or 2005. Hope it helps.
