Re: Lubing the bearings

Bearings of the type used in appliances like this require no lubrication. If they ask anything it's to remain clean and free of lint. Oiling this type of bearing actually ATTRACTS lint and hair.

My maytag ensignia dryer is making a loud screeching noise, what is the problem and how can I fix it?

Could be a few things but it I had to guess I would say that you need to lube the center axle of your dryer. You dryer tub is spinning on a small axle. If you look at back of dryer near center you might see where it is. You might have to pull it slightly apart to get to it.But it needs lubing...If you dont do it soon it will make the hole bigger. No big fix. Just make sure you unplugg it before doing it.

How to Install a belt

Unplug the dryer and take it outside.
Step 1: Remove the filter
Step 2: Remove 2 screws from filter chute on top of dryer
Step 3: Pull top towards you on each side slightly to raise it
Step 4: Remove 2 screws inside the front panel
Step 5: Unplug the lid switch using small screw driver
Step 6: Raise up the panel 1 inch then remove it
Step 7; Remove the drum
Step 8: clean it up and lube the roller & idler
Step 9: Remove the filter chute and clean it
Step 10: Place the new belt (341241) around the drum with
the ribbed side towards the drum surface making sure it is not twisted.A twisted belt will be ruined quickly.
Step 11: Use belt to help you place the drum back in the dryer.
Step 12: Make sure the rollers are in the groove and the felt is not tucked under.
Step 13: Insert the idler into the floor beneath the motor puller and raise up on it. Then loop the belt through the idler and onto the motor pulley.
Step 14: Turn the drum a bit by hand making sure the belt is on track and not twisted.
Step 15: Replace front panel
Step 16 plug in lid switch
Step 17 Snap down the top install the screws to the filter chute and shove the filter back in.
Step 18: Give it a dry run fer a sec to make sure it works well before throwing any clothes in there.
Step 19: Grab a cold one. You deserve it!

Dryer works but squeeks the back is solid no inspection panel how do i get acess to grease bearing?

Greetings, The first step is to UNPLUG dryer:
The front has to come off to service your dryer.. The door comes off by removing screws from hinge..The door pulls out and you then grab the front panel and pull it towards you. This gets you into the drive area..Its most likely the drum rollers or belt pulley thats making noise..There is no drum bearing on the dryer.

The drum support assembly has to be removed to replace rollers or at the ;least lube them. I suggest going thru this labor to just replace parts then lube them. There are four screws that hold this front on..Two screws on each corner. Remove paying attention to how the tub rides on the front to make it easier on install...The belt can come off and the whole tub can be removed.

The belt goes back a certain way, so be careful to take note of how it fits back on drum and around belt pulley..At this time you can replace your rollers in back( the front has two rollers as well) and replace your belt pulley.

My motor is makeing a sqeeling sound, it turns easy enough but squeels can u wd 40??

I don't work on gas dryers normally but, It may not be your motor making the squealing noise, it is probably your drum rollers making the noise.
You need to lube the shaft of the drum rollers with a good grade of machine oil like 3 in One oil...while you are at it you can lube the motor also if you feel that is necessary...
I would not use WD-40 to lube the motor or drum rollers it does not have the "staying power" that 3 in One oil has and you will be re lubing again soon, also it can creep its way into the motor and cause an electrical short to the motor.

Tumble dryer

  1. This doesn't appear to be a simple task so I would suggest making sure you have the time to do this so your project does not get interrupted.
  2. Step 2 1: Remove power (better now than later ;-) )

2: Remove the front door assembly (2 screws holding the hinge to the drier carcase)

3: Remove the top cover (2 screws at the rear, then slide the top backwards and lift off). It's a good idea to remove any fluff from the innards at this point.
  3. Step 3 4: Lay the drier carefully on it's front (I used a pillow to protect the timer and 2 pushbuttons)

5: Remove the cover over the drum bearing and earth strap (2 screws)

6: Remove the cover over the fan assembly (numerous screws)
  4. Step 4 7: Remove the earthing bracket (copper assembly held by 2 small screws) and then remove the circlip and washer on the drum axle

8: Remove the fan vanes (3 hex screws holding 2 metal flanges that make up the impeller fan)

9: Remove all screws around the rear cover and gently lift it up (I supported one edge with a basin perched on the rear of the drum, it gives access to the motor chassy etc. There's a vent tube that will come dislodged at this point; it's easy to relocate later.
  5. Step 5 10: Remove any bits of the old belt and drop the new one round the drum. Use tape to hold the belt in the correct position on the drum (if you don't do this, you WON'T gave enough slack to go round the motor pulley....believe me!!)

11: Carefully feed the belt past one idler wheel and then over the motor pulley. Slowly turn the drum slightly to encourage the belt to feed round the second idler wheel.
  6. Step 6 12: Remove the tape used to hold the belt in place

13: Replace the rear cover (make sure the vent tube is seated correctly at front and rear). Tighten all screws.
  7. Step 7 14: Replace the Fan assembly

15: Replace the drum bearing circlip (I took the opportunity of rotating the bearing through 180 degrees). Replace the copper earthing strap.

16: Replace the fan housing cover and drum bearing cover. (Make sure the heating element is free of fluff and crud)
  8. Step 8 17: Replace the top cover

18: Fire up the beast!!! It may smell a little if there's anything still on the heating element.

you may have to take it apart and check two things...
1. the motor on dryers can get pluged with dust and lint and dry out. the motor bearings may simply be dry. it might be too late for the motor, but you could try lubing the motor bearings and at least stop the squeal for a while.
2. remove the drum and lubricate the wheels or bearings that the drum rides on.
lubricate all rollers and belt guides as well.
hope this helps..........jay
