My iomega hard drive doesnt appear under my computer, it appears in dev. mgr but cannot assign a letter. Windows makes a sound to recognise its there, its says usb recognised and ready to go. just cant...

Iomega portable hard drives connect to your computer through a USB port. When you connect the Iomega hard drive to your computer, it should pop up as an icon in your My Computer folder. If you can't find the icon in your My Computer folder then you probably need to update the driver for the device. Updating this driver is not very hard and can be done automatically from the Windows Device Manager.

Plug your Iomega hard drive into one of your computer's USB port. Click the "Start" button and go to the "Run" field. Type "Devmgmt.msc" into the Run box and press the "Enter" key. Go down to the bottom of the device manager to the "Universal Serial Bus Controller." Click on the little + (plus) sign to expand it. Look for an entry with a yellow exclamation point and click on it. Click the "Install the software automatically (Recommended)" button and then click the "Next" button. Click the "Finish" button when the installation has finished. Go to the "My Computer" folder from your "Start" menu and locate the Iomega hard drive icon. Double click the icon to gain access to the external hard drive. Hope it helps.

My Iomega 1 TB desktop usb 2.0 hard drive stopped working. it makes a ticking sound and turns off on it's own.

This means that your hard drive has died so will need to be replaced. This is what you need to do:
1. Buy a new hard drive
2. Open up the casing of your old device
3. Remove the old hard drive
4. Place the new hard drive in the bay
5. Re-assemble the casing and plug in

Problem with Iomega Portable Hard Drive

Sounds like the drive is dead, even though it powers up the disk might not be spinning or the read heads could be stuck. Depending on the data you have on it and if you have it backed up or not, you could send it out for to have the data pulled off it but I warn you it is not cheap.

Hello, I plugged in my iomega 1tb desktop hard drive storage device and the drive does not appear in my drive or computer. I do have the new hardware 'sound' that comes up but I dont have the drive show up...

Iomega 1TB Desktop Hard Drive is a dedicated usb 2.0 plug and play external storage device that has an ability to transfer at 480Mbits/second. having these large capacity storage drive needs a fast connection and additional power source to make sure to run the external unit system properly.

just make sure both power and data cables are properly plugged and connected respectively. if you are using it with a desktop, please always plug your usb connection from the Iomega 1TB external drive to the rear USB port in line where you built-in LAN not plug it in the frontload ports. some motherboard manufacturers uses usb 1 and/or 1.1 only for frontload desktop casing provision.

thank you.

Disk spins ...then I hear a beep...icon does not show up

The hard disk or the adapter case maybe faulty.
To test the hard disk, remove it form the Iomega case and connect it to an USB hard disk adapter and plug it into a computer's USB port.
If this computer see it as an external hard drive and you can open the folders and files then the hard disk is OK, then the Iomega adapter case is faulty.
Then you need a new hard drive adapter case, it doesn't need to be an Iomega brand.
