Question about Intel Motherboard

MSI K9MM-V and ATHLON 64X2 4000+ CPU

My son updated his computer with an MSI K9MM-V motherboard and AMD Athlon 64X2 4000+ processor. He also added DDR2 memory (PNY PC2-5300). When he tries to boot up, he is getting the same screen asking to select safe mode, etc. After making a selection, it comes right back to the same screen. He has tried contacting MSI, but hasn't gotten a return call yet. I did some research and it seems to be pointing to the BIOS. He has reset everything, but it didn't correct the problem. We're wondering if possibly the memory is not compatible, but don't have anything else on hand. Any help will be appreciated.

He had ECS L7S7A2 Motherboard and Athlon 2200+ Socket A. He's looking for his xp disk now.

Just threw together a K9N4 Sli-f with an Athlon 64 X2 4000+, an evga 8600 GT, and 2 GB of Corsair RAM trying to use my old harddrive and Windows just won't boot. Bios shows everything else looks ok. I don't have The XP disc. Oh well.

If he has changed motherboard then he will most likely need to reinstall xp/vista as the chipset drivers will be different for it.

What mb/cpu did he have before?

Can MSI MS-6380E support radeon x1800?

http://www.legendmicro.com/store/2940_MSI-MS-6380E-010-KT3-Ultra-Socket-A-Socket-462-for-AMD-Athlon-XPDuron-Processor.lmsp

1) Motherboard uses a Socket A processor socket. Also known as Socket 462.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_A

When they switched from the Athlon single-core processors, to the Athlon 64-bit dual-core processors, they went to a completely different processor socket.

AM2,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_AM2

So using the MSI MS-6380E motherboard with a dual core AMD processor = NO.

I don't seem to find an AMD Athlon 64 X2 1.8GigaHertz processor, except for a mobile version. One used for a laptop in otherwords,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113047

Uses a Socket S1 mobile processor socket,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_S1

List of AMD Athlon 64 microprocessors,

Pretend like I'm from Missouri, and Show Me.

Find the processor by it's AMD part number, and post the URL of the website in a Comment.

http://www.amazon.com/AMD-Athlon-Venice-Single-Core-Processor/dp/B003RXLMCC

AMD Athlon 64 3000+
SINGLE-core processor, not X2.
(Socket 939 processor socket, too)

Show me the Processor, and then we can go on.

Does amd 240e processor support NF725gtm-p31 motherboard. As on the manual it says only 95W and this processor is 45W.

Yes this MSI mainboard supports the AMD Athlon II X2 240e CPU.

45Watt is less than 95Watt therefore it is well within the limits of the mainboard.

If you can, see if you can get the AMD Athlon 245 or 250. It cost only a little more but you get a higher clock speed and they will also work in your mainboard.

The AMD xp1500 processor is slow. Its need to be faster than it is. Need to know. Cheers!

If your computer has less than 512MB of RAM, then that is one "bottle-neck" that hurts your computer's overall performance.
Consider adding 512MB or 1024MB of RAM.

Or, your motherboard probably will accept other AMD processors in the "Athlon XP" line. Take your computer to a computer-store, and see if they can sell you a '2600+' or '2800+' AMD CPU that will be compatible with your motherboard. That upgrade will make your CPU almost _twice_ its current speed.
