I hope the last owner did not take out the smog pump.

Check under the hood, look for a smog pump.

The smog pump provide more "fresh air" into the cat. in return you get a cleaner exhaust.

In some state, the tech can fail smog check because of missing emission part(s)

The pipe is pretty long and it's well constructed.
try to cross Carquest AT167 Air Tube Kit at you local part store.

Take a second look on the Serpentine Belt path for the smog/air pump.

Most owner does not go though that much trouble to save 12 pound of weight.

Depending on the engine code (6th digit on VIN # / C or M)

The smog pump will cost between $43-47

Is the smog pump mount still in the Jeep?

Check the belts routing diagram under the hood will give more info.

Check the emission sticker under the hood of the Jeep before you start the restoration project.

There are FEDERAL and California emission standards.

Look at the emission sticker and rebuilt it back to its org. requirement.

The jeep has air injection and this is part of the air pump. The cat should have two ports.. These tubes should have check valves to prevent backfire.Usually their routed up on both sides of motor and attached at the air cleaner abouts

Goes into limp mode, just restart & will run for awhile again. checked fuel system & regulator.cat. convert, 4 sp. auto, changed ext. shift module.

Did this happen all of a sudden? Is this a 4 or 6 cyl. engine? Did you have anything done to the car just prior to this problem or within the last couple of months? How many miles on it? Any aftermarket instillation's?

88 wrangler yj with 4.2l auto trans. Looking for the spec for the reverse band in the trsnsmission . It is the three speed automatic.

The adjustment screw should be torqued down to 72 inch lbs (inch not foot. Just making sure). Then back it off 7 turns. just be VERY careful when reinstalling that lock nut that the adjusting screw doesn't turn and by the way the torque on the lock nut is 35 ft-lbs (yes foot pounds this time). Guessing this is the information you are needing. Hope it is and I hope this helped.....

Need diagrams for 88 Jeep Wrangler Auto Trans

Your public library will have a manual covering your mechanical repair. Moreover, they have the automotive shops online software called AllData. It is the best auto technician database available today. You can print out specific troubleshooting procedures, diagrams, step-by-step istructions, and soforth. The typical person cannot afford to pay for this service, just automotive dealerships, etc... that is why the public library made it available to everyone and for free to view and print out material. This should Fixya! Good Luck!

Sounds like you got a bad trans. Was it used? Does it have a warranty? Can you shift it with the linkage off? Is everything adjusted correctly?

Can I tow my 4X4 auto grand cherokee behind a Mtr Hm? I will put everything in N (transfer case & Trany)

I have a jeep wrangler and to have it towed you are suppose to put the transverecase in neutral after you first depress brake pedal put trans in neutral then start engine shift auto trans into drive release brake pedal make sure there is no movement, shut engine off with key left in acc position shift auto trans into park, disconnect neg battery cable (damage can result in trans if shifted into park while transvere case is in neutral with engine running) you should refere to your owners manuel

88 wrangler wont shift

Clutch pedals have a safety interlock switch that keeps a manual transmission vehicle from starting. It sounds like the pin on the bottom of the shifter in the trans is getting worn and needs to be replaced. You can remove the boot on the shifter and the cover on top of the trans and see the pin. It's a simple matter of getting the pin out and installing a new one. Just make sure everything lines up good on the install and everything is clean. Another thing that may be the culprit are the synchronizer plates could be worn nearlt out. To replace or fix this you will need the trans out of the vehicle and tear it down. Start with an inspection of the pin and the linkage as well, then if it doesn't work correctly then you may have to tear into it.

Oil pan removal on a 97 jeep wrangler

Instructions can be found in any basic manual but the simple version is to remove anything obvious that will be in your way (starter, trans lines etc). Disconnect both engine mounts and raise engine to get better clearance (watch stuff on top so you don't break anything) I usually stuff a couple of 2x4 wood blocks between engine & mounts to support it. Remove all pan bolts and take it down (remember pump pickup will interfere) Do what you need to do, then reverse process.
