What is my dvd/hard disk recorder doing?

The problem is probably data corruption.

Disconnect the unit from the power supply for 15 minutes...which will clear the memory buffers and reset the micro at reconnection.

Hopefully after that it will be ok. The first update of the day occurs around 5 am therefore you can switch off anytime up to say 0200 am and then power on when you like but at say 0700 to 0800 am.

Cannot get any digital channels since local digital switch over

The official line on this is that you should try and retune again, but there are some Panasonic models with similar model numbers to yours which have been specifically identified as having incompatibility problems with the Freeview retune.

However, your model is definitely not one which appears on the problem list, so it's worth checking that your aerial wasn't misaligned or damaged during the gales last weekend. In addition the Winter Hill transmitter is currently undergoing work until December which will significantly boost the digital signal and give it HDTV capability, so your box may have have been knocked out of kilter if the current digital service was temporarily operating at restricted capacity. Digital signals are by their nature much weaker than analogue tv and if you have a marginal aerial system which has been up for many years and which feeds a number of televisions in the house then it's definitely a good idea to see about upgrading your aerial system.

The difference in actual parts costs between a top spec aerial system and a poor one are surprisingly low, it's also easily possible with careful design and installation to get a better performance with poor parts than you can get with a poorly designed and installed system using top quality parts. One thing does hold true though: a well designed and installed system using poor parts will only last a few years before needing serious attention but a proper job can last up to thirty years.

If you're sure about your aerial system and retuning does not help, then you'll need to contact Panasonic directly. The first web address below will give you their contact number along with a list of Freeview boxes with known retune issues. A second web address which I've given takes you to an excellent Sheffield based tv aerial company which has an incredibly informative website.

I hope that you've found my answer to be helpful and ask only that you return the favour by rating my answer.

I can't get the recorder to keep my guide.

There might be a TV Guide issue located in your area, since the transition to digital, TV Guide have been updating there broadcast frequency which is know been done by CBS. Have unit reset by holding down channel up and down button for 15 second on the unit itself until 12 flashes on display, then power on unit and setup TV Guide, then have unit off for 24 hours especially between 11pm to 6am for listing. If issue still exist contact Panasonic to have issue send to TV Guide.

As soon as I had the loop cable in properly it solved the problem. Hope this helps....

I have upgraded my comcast service to an extended version including more channels but no cable box. I've been unable to set up my TIVO dual Series device to get the new channels, it only recognizes the...

Try this first...Press the TiVo button at the top center of the Remote, then > Messages & Settings > Restart or Reset System > Repeat Guided Setup and then follow the onscreen instructions from there.

This should load your new channel lineup into your TiVo.

If all the channels are still not recognized... Press the TiVo button at the top center of the remote, then > Messages & Settings > Settings > Channels > Channel List and then make sure all of the channels you receive are checked.

No TV Guide On Screen and no clock adjustment

I have two Panasonic DMR-EH50s and one DMR-E85H. I also have a Sony DHG-HDD250 which also uses TVGOS, but it is a HD recorder (that means full DIGITAL capabilities, including the TVGOS ) My TVGOS went out in the middle of April. I messed around on the support sites for about two weeks and found little real info.

The bottom line: I live in Madison, WI & have Charter Cable. None of my DVRs were receiving the TVGOS. Charter was not processing and/or transmitting the TVGOS properly (doesn't really matter the DVRs couldn't receive them), so I called them up, got to their "Level 3 Technical Support" and explained to them that I could not receive the TVGOS digitally or analog (converted digital) on any of my DVRs. They called me back a week later and told me to try it again....

So, all you need to do (if your local Cable Company is sending it properly):

WARNING - All SCHEDULED programs that you have previously scheduled by using the TVGOS will be deleted (NOTE: not the programs that are already recorded on your hard drive, they will NOT be deleted)

Turn the unit off.

Press the up channel & down channel (on the box, not on your remote control) at the same time & hold them for at least 10 seconds. This will reset the entire TVGOS system back to the default settings that were present when you first plugged in your DVR. This erases all previous info that your DVR had about what station it used to get the signal from and forces it to scan all the channels looking for the new channel. This is the only way to force this to occur.

When you turn on the unit, it will run you through the setup like it did when you plugged it in for the first time. Enter your zip code, etc. and when you are done, turn it off & leave it off overnight.

If your TVGOS has the Station Grid but no listings, be patient, TVGO updates its own firmware on your DVR automatically, and that may be all that happens the first night. It should start updating the listings the following night.

If it found the station grid, this is a great sign!!!! This means that your cable company is working on it!!!! It took my local Cable Company about 7 or 8 days to get it working properly, but now my 3 Panasonics and my HD Sony are all receiving full listings!!!!

If you are still getting nothing, complain to your LOCAL Cable Company. It is up to them to ensure that the signal is converted to analog & sent out over cable.

TV Guide on Line for viewing and recording was there and poof

I think I may have the "answer".

I am in Atlanta and have a Panasonic DVR that was working fine and sometime during the past month or so we lost the channel listings. I've tried many resets as well with negative results.

I called Comcast tonight. The agent helping me took a long time to research the issue and gave me this answer (which sounds reasonable). By the way, this is for the Atlanta area and may not be applicable to other areas of the country.

Due to delays in the conversion to broadcast digital and the fact that Comcast is experiencing bandwidth issues, they have digitized the "channel listing" signal. By mid-June Comcast's signal will be all digital and you won't be able to watch a TV connected directly to Comcast cable - regardless of whether it has digital or analog tuner (or both). This is contrary to what I'd heard before.

After mid-June, you'll either need to use a cable box OR what she called a "Digital Transmitter Adapter" (let's call it a DTA). Prior to being converted to "full" digital, you'll get notification from Comcast. She said I'd be able to get 2 DTAs at no charge (I currently have one Comcast HD DVR box). Additional DTAs would be $1.99 a month. DTAs will only provide access to the "basic" cable channels, but the good news is that the Panasonic DVR should be able to obtain its channel lineup through this DTA box.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at

Good Luck!

Recorder is not showing tv listings

I spoke with Toshiba tech support today (800-631-3811). They have an advanced services team that focuses on TV Guide On Screen. Learned the following:

- The TV Guide On Screen signal is updated 4x / day and is broadcast by your service provider
- The broadcast channel varies depending on what the service provider chooses (though typically a major network or PBS station)
- TV Guide On Screen has been doing some reprogramming and updates recently and this has resulted in many sporadic outages

If you ARE not receiving your listings, it's one of two things - either your DVR or the signal from the cable company.

- If you are having issues, call Toshiba and let them know, they will walk through some basic troubleshooting to narrow down if the problem is the DVR or the TV Guide On Screen signal.
- If the issue is the TV Guide On Screen signal, they will be able to report the issue to TV Guide On Screen and let them know their is an issue.

After that - it's in someone else's hands!

Panasonic DMR-E85 DVD recorder TV Guide problem

Try unplugging the DMR-E85 power cord. It is important that you unplug it from the back of the recorder, not the wall. Leave it unplugged for 10 or 15 minutes. For good measure disconnect the cable 'in' connection as well. Once both lines are plugged back in it will go through its self-check diagnostics. Leave it alone for awhile (give it time to consider the error of it's ways). If you are lucky, when you turn it back on it will ask you to verify the channel lineup. If this does work, and all the channel info is correct, press 'enter' (lineup 1 highlighted). Good luck! This is an awesome machine, WHEN IT WORKS!
