I eventually got this working. Download the latest version of the AC97 driver from the Realtek website:

Start, control panel, switch to classic view ( if you haven't already done so), system, hardware, device manager and see if there are any yellow circles to suggest missing drivers. Also go to sound and audio devices in control panel to see if anything is installed.

My Packard Bell Easynote Z94T laptop has no audio output after windows 7 upgrade - help! go to device manager and uninstall the current driver. prompt will then come up stating new hardware found and will ask you to chose a location to install from. go to P-Bell site and upload driver once in the download file you can open the driver file. I also suggest you go to Microsoft Security Essentials and run a quick scan of your computer( this will update virus definitions and remedy many latent computer issues.

I want to reformat PB MS2303

Packard Bell is a computer manufacturer, now owned by Acer. Restoring your computer will erase the hard drive and install a fresh copy of Microsoft Windows. This is beneficial if the Packard Bell is showing its age and running extremely slow or has been hit with an incurable virus infection. Before attempting to restore the system, be sure to back up any data you wish to save.

1.Insert the Windows Setup CD/DVD into the computer's optical drive. The disc will have been included with the Packard Bell computer.

2.Restart the computer with the disc inserted. A black screen will appear when the disc is detected, displaying "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD..." Press any key on the keyboard to launch the Windows installer. The "Install Windows" screen will appear.

3.Click "Next."

4.Select "I accept the license terms" and click "Next."

5.Click "Custom" when asked what type of installation you'd like. The other option is "Upgrade," but in order to restore your Packard Bell system to its factory settings, you must reformat the hard drive.

6.Click "Drive Options" when asked where to install Windows. Select the C: drive and click "Erase." Select the unallocated space after it has been erased, and click "Format." Format the space using the "NTFS" file system.

7.Click "Next" and Windows will begin reinstalling on the Packard Bell's hard drive. The system will reboot when finished and launch into your newly restored Packard Bell.

How can i reformat my packard bell laptop without the recovery cd?

The recovery cd is just a Pre-Built Windows version that includes the drivers you need for your computer.
If you want to format your pc and lack the original recovery cd, you just need to get a Windows (or other operating system you want) installation CD/DVD, put it on your optical drive and reboot your computer.
On installation, you will be asked what you want to do: Fix or Install. Choose install and check to format your disk.
After installation, if something doesn't work, its because you don't have the needed drivers, so go to Dell's Support Page find your computer, download and install the drivers you are lacking (video card graphics, sound, etc.)
Hope it was helpful ;)

Packard bell versa e400 power only comes on when connected by the mains adapter. it has a battery in it but will not power up from it.please help

Hi there.
Basically the batteries dead and needs to be replaced!!
This is a common problem right across the board with all laptops, in some cases its the powerboard on the motherboard itself which won't charge any battery new or old.
To troubleshoot it you will need another battery to test with it.

Good luck

I have a packard bell versa e400 it is running on xp home edition it boots up loads all programs and conects to the net and then just stops all of sudden rebots back at the begining and so on etc any ideas...

Start your computer in safe mode and see if the problem persists.
If not, then you have a piece of software that is starting up and causing the reboot.
If so, the problem may be a hardware issue, or windows itself may be corrupted.
you may want to try to do a system restore to an earlier point, as this often eliminates minor glitches that some programs instill.

If you cannot see the speaker icon in the taskbar, click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices and tick place icon in the taskbar. That's if a driver has been installed for your sound device which is a creative sounblaster I think.
