I have upgraded my laptop computer, put a bigger hard drive in and more memory.I formatted the hard drive and put Windows Xp home edition on it.I went to the PB website for all the drivers, but can't find the right driver for the sound.Any help would be appreciated.
regards,
David Robinson

Dear Tom 19511,

My laptop is a Packard Bell IGo 4000 series, I tried to retrieve my serial No. but its worn off.I bought the laptop 5 years ago in 2002.
Other than a Western Digital Hdd, extra RAM and a standard DVD-wr( it originally came with a DVD/cd-wr combo), the components are the factory fitted kit.I tried the AC97 drivers from the website, and I tried the others that were listed, neither give me my windows start up tune.
Regards,
Robbo46

Same problem as Robbo. I have a iGO 4000. Fitted a new hard disk, so cant use the stupid restore CD. Downloaded both sound drivers from the website. Neither works. If I go into the control panel system/devices I can see an audio driver conflict. Windows cannot identify the chipset and will not accept either of the drivers from the website. In the BIOS of the computer it mentions AC97, but wont accept the AC97 driver.

Dear Tom,

My laptop is a Packard Bell IGo 4000 series.I tried to recover the serial No., but it was worn out underneath.Apart from a Western Digital Hdd, extra RAM and a DVD-wr, the computer is factory fitted.
I tried the AC97 drivers from the Packard Bell website, and the other sound driver that was listed, but neither made the Windows Xp start-up sound.
Regards,
Robbo46

I eventually got this working. Download the latest version of the AC97 driver from the Realtek website:

Start, control panel, switch to classic view ( if you haven't already done so), system, hardware, device manager and see if there are any yellow circles to suggest missing drivers. Also go to sound and audio devices in control panel to see if anything is installed.
