Problem for Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

I'm a complete novice on laptops.

i'm a complete novice on laptops, however my problem is i have a dell inspiron 1501 which came with windows vista. a friend installed windows 7 for me but i want to know did he have the option to go through private files or does it automatically over write. thanx

Hello

If he did chose the upgrade funktion, you will be able to keep your private files on the computer.

If he formatted the laptop first and installed the new copy of windows on the c drive, you will loose all the private files on that drive. Hope i understood you correctly.

Hi,
If he did an upgrade on the system then your files should be there and intact, if he did a complete instalation the your file are all gone as a new(complete) instalation wil format the harddrive and will delete everything on the HDD.
He could have the option to save your file first befor the new instalation.
