Keyboard space bar

The keyboard space bar is not working. All other keys are working.
The product is a Dell Inspiron 2650 pc notebook, not the 2200 listed below.

The insane thing here is after giving the notebook a rest for a couple of days the space key starts to work again. At first it stuttered, but then it started working fine! Don't know what was really wrong, but I am up and running again.

Well, I've been searching the internet like mad to find a solution to this very annoying problem.

I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 laptop. The spacebar is quite disfunctional. The only way it will insert a space is either if I hit the key very hard or if I press the left side of it (or the center with force). I assume that the key is no longer making contact with the piece beneath it...

I've already been on YouTube to see what I could do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8s0qTjNF...

He said to pop the key off and insert a small piece of paper. However, his computer is a VAIO SZ.

My first question: How can I fix my spacebar so that I no longer go insane?

My second question: Can the keys actually pop off my Inspiron 2650 keyboard? (I don't want to break it!)

    Thanks!

Same problem...what a pain. I have to press down hard to separate words. I hope it fixes itself, too.

Was working fine up until about 2 hours ago.

I have an HP Latitude D510, and my spacebar also died. I popped off the spacebar, cleaned it with q-tips and alcohol, and tweezers, and it works great now! I put the little rubber bubble back where it was supposed to go. This was a school issued laptop, so it was filthy to start. I should probably clean every key this way!

Just to let you know, I'm afraid I didn't quite understand your explanation suffolkpo. Springs, I understand. What's the bubble? All I see is darkness under my spacebar.

Is my only hope to completely remove my keyboard? (How would I do that? I remember reading something about having to take out the bettery and un-screw two differents parts, etc etc) (Well, on second thought, I suppose I could just Google that info. However, if it could be provided here, that would be great.)

Finally, can I simply pop the key off?

Forgive me for my ignorance. Though I do have to say that your explanation was slightly... difficult to comprehend.

    I appreciate any help.

    Thank you!

Only two possibilities, first is the rocker springs at each end or the bar are causingit to not make contact. or the bubble switches under the keyboard. I had a similar problem on an inspiron 6400 and I had to VERY CAREFULLY remove the keyboard, then the button to reach the bubble switch which had lost the plastic bushing that covered the shorting contact, good luck given the insane price that dell wanted for a new keyboard fixing it myself was the option.

Since I wasn't getting any answers here, I finally mustered up the nerve to pop the spacebar off my laptop. My boyfriend raised a very good point: My warranty was very over and I basically had nothing to lose.

So, the spacebar can be popped off a Dell Inspiron 2650 pc notebook.

Now as for what my problem was, I'm not entirely certain. I took a damp Q-tip and swabbed beneath the keys (as well as the top of some other dirty keys) I then popped the spacebar back on and it seems to be working just fine. Perhaps it was a bit of dirt, or maybe the spacebar just wasn't on properly the first time.

I figured out on my own what the bubble it. You learn something new everyday I suppose. ;]

In the end, am very happy to say that my laptop keyboard works just fine now.

Laptop key repeats or doesn't work at all

what you can try to do is to test an external monitor. If it works fine, try to check for any stuck key on the keyboard and any foreign objects. If all is well, you can request a replacement keyboard from dell if your system is still within warranty.

Inspiron 2650 Laptop keyboard is locked.

If the keyboard is locked ALL the time, try unpluging the power supply, remove the battery, then push and hold the power button and any key on the keyboard for at least 30 seconds. then reinstall the battery, plug the pwoer cord back in and reboot it.

I had the same problem and that is what the DELL techs had me do. I had the problemm frequently for a while and then it just quit recurring. I haven't had the problem for a long time now.

I hope this helps.

Keyboard want work

The keyboard is probably broken or the cable is loose (unlikely) from the motherboard. Does the keyboard work at all? at any point?

Try a external keyboard, usb for example and see if that works.

Keyboard

Try this:

Shut down, unplug the AC adaptor, removed the battery, and hold the power button for up to 1 minute to discharge.

Make sure there are no stuck keys.

Restart.
