"load main image failed switch to recovery mode"

sansa sandisk e260 ---- i've formated it while in USB mode, it said it was successful but then when it started back up now only shows "load main image failed switch to recovery mode" --- my issue is, i'm not sure what i'm supposed to do once i'm in recovery mode (i know how to get there... but when do i do once i'm there).
