My Sony digital handycam model DCR-TRV250 gives an error signal consisting of a series of dings: "ding ding, ding ding, etc." and the error code "C:31:32" when turned on in either the VCR mode or the Camera mode. Is this something that can be fixed? When in camera mode, the dinging cintinues but the camera real-time image appears to be good in the view window.

This can be caused by several problems including the transmission gear in the tape mechanism not engaging properly, a defective clutch in the take-up spool or a faulty rotary mode switch. This will require disassembling the camera to repair and can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not really a user serviceable problem and should be repaired by a qualified service technician.

Error code C31:23 means that the FWD back tension value is too high due to grease sticking out of the "Gear Assy, Gooseneck", adhering to the band of "TG2, Arm Assy" or "Table Assy, Reel”. First remove all batteries and then shake the camera hard (or alternatively hit the bottom hard with your hand -at your own risk-), this will remove the error. If it still does not then you have to give the camera a couple of hard taps, on the side and base. Please do rate the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

it is an error code for the humidity sensor (dew)
try disconnect battery and pwr pack
for 60 sec and try it back
if its not work you may need service to fix it.

Is there any error message comes when you connect Sony DCR-HC18E with PC?
Does PC sounds Ding when you connect camera at USB port?

That is my "Welcome" screen. Mine beeps also. After the beep, I record or doing whatever i need to do. Maybe you're trying to start it faster than it requires (in other words, slow down).
