Canon MP600 - Scanner reversing the colors

Canon MP600 - my printer works fine, but I am trying to scan a document. It is scanning but is reversing the colors. In otherwords, I am scanning black type on a white background; but once it's scanned the saved scanned document has white type on a black background.
