"Locked" meaning the buttons don't work/non-responsive (Child Safety Locked)? To Unlock/Disengage the Child Safety. Push and hold the
"Clear/Off" button for 3 to 4 seconds. The Child Safety is disengaged - problem solved.
If this is a GE Advantium series microwave, the control panel can be locked to prevent children from manipulating the controls. To lock or unlock, press and hold the CLEAR/OFF button for 5 seconds. These instructions are included on page 36 of the owner's manual listed here:
You can get the users manual at this site http://genet.geappliances.com/DocSearch/Dispatcher It explains that this is a child lock feature. Here is the description:
You may lock the control
panel to prevent the
microwave from being
accidentally started or
used by children.
To lock or unlock the
controls, press and hold
CLEAR/OFF for about
three seconds. When the
control panel is locked,
an "L" will be displayed
to the extreme right.
"Locked" on the display is an indication that your microwave oven has a Safety Lock feature that allows you to lock the keyboard. It can inadvertently be set as a result of the consumer pressing and holding the wrong buttons and during power interruptions. You need to refer to the owner's manual under the Operator Controls section to see which buttons you need to press and hold to turn the feature on/off. If you no longer have an owner's manual, please post back with your MODEL NUMBER, so that I can provide you with a more conclusive solution. To answer your initial question, the oven SHOULD still be operational, but it needs to be unlocked in order to fully determine this. I hope this helps you.
NOTE: On many microwave oven models simply pressing and holding the CANCEL/OFF button for 3 to 5 seconds will turn the lock on/off. If not...please let me know.
If the model number is correct, your microwave oven is equipped with a child safety lock. This feature can be turned on/off by pressing and holding the Clear/Off button for 3 seconds. The instructions are listed on page 28 of the owner's manual.
If you no longer have an owner's manual and would like to obtain one for FREE. Go to managemylife.com and enter your model number under the "Manuals" link. Your owner's manual and installation manual is available in a .pdf format that you can download or print for free.
If your model number differs from the one you posted this question under, or if you have additional questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.
I have a Whirlpool toom which states in manual: -- To lock/Unlock....Touch and hold START?ENTER for 5 second until 2 tones sound and "L" appears on dsplay. Repeat the same if you lock or unlock. Hope this helps.
i'm assuming that you don't have the manual. The unlocking procedure should be in the manual. Models with a child lock-out safety feature should have a "Help" button that will lead to an un-lock procedure or a special button that you need to hold for 5 seconds. Try holding down the "0" button or "Start" button for 5 seconds.
