If you are trying to copy a floppy disc use right click on what you want to copy, then locate where you want to put the file and right click again and paste.
If you want to copy a cd - data disc to your pc use the same procedure, right click, select location to store the info and right click, then paste. You can also use the file menu to "select all" if there are a lot of files in windows explorer or my computer. If you want to make a copy of a data disc to another cd, copy the files to your hard drive, then use your cd program to burn a new disc. If you are trying to copy a cd- music disc - the songs must be "ripped" from the cd into either cd or wav format using a program such as Music Match Jukebox or similar with the "record" feature, or media player using the "rip" feature - this will place the tracks on your hard drive, then you can make a new cd from those tracks. The same process is used for movie discs - except usually a DVD is used and a DVD burner and some movies are locked with copyright or region codes to prevent copying. Additionally - some software has the same lock placed on a few files to prevent making copied discs.
To use windows explorer (file manager) it is usually located in start/ programs/ accessories, the left pane will show the drives and folders in your pc, the right pane will show the contents of folders or drives, clicking the plus sign expands the folder to see the contents. To see files normally hidden, use the top menu tools/folderoptions/view and check the option show hidden files. There is also an option to see file extensions and also system files.
Before you Begin
Make sure there is no program runing that has opened any file on the original disk. You cannot run the Disk Copy procedure if any file on the original or destination disks is in use by any program. For example, if you were editing a document in MS Word, saving to the disk in Drive A, and now want to copy it to another disk: FIRST quit the MS Word program, then execute the Disk Copy procedure.
Caveat LectorThis Disk Copy procedure will make an exact copy of the original disk on the copy disk. It will completely overwrite the copy disk, replacing anything on it with the contents of the original (source) disk. That means that if there are any files on the copy (destination) disk before you begin, those files will be destroyed. You might want to take a look at the destination disk before beginning to be sure there's nothing on it you want to save.
